Led by a host of talented juniors in 2020, the 2021 campaign looks to be a promising one for the Gators. A 7-3 record, and trip to the playoffs in 2020, will look to be added upon in the coming year. Let’s take a look at a trio of talented rising seniors that will look to pave the way.
Telvin Amos Telvin Amos 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH Lake Cormorant | 2022 State MS | QB/ATH
Amos steered the ship for Coach Nester as the only player to attempt a pass during the 2020 season. With that being said, Amos projects more as a sheer ATH with dynamic athletic ability and a physical build to match. Nonetheless, Amos has been productive as the QB for the Gators in a run heavy offense. Amos went 74-137 thru the air in 2020 for nearly 1,000 yards and 9 TD’s while contributing 649 yards and 7 TD’s on the ground off of 117 carries. Amos moves well enough in straight line and change of direction situations to have value as a wideout and could have DB potential with work on that side of the ball. The Gator QB has a physical, power style, presence that is impressive given his size. This is a kid who is battle tested in an extremely tough division and could be a huge upside prospect in time. I could see this being the type of guy that someone gives a chance and is very thankful for it down the road. Unteachable athletic intangibles are present.
Jordan Martin | ATH
Much like Amos, Martin carries the ATH tag next to his name. The Gator 2022 recruit is a sure fire burner as he held one of the top 40 yd times at the ATL UA camp last weekend. The 2020 season saw Martin line up all over the field, with production at both WR and DB. The speed is natural and pure for Martin as he showcases a long stride for his size. Refinement in route running will be key as he currently can win one on one situations due to speed alone, which won’t always be the case. The current projection for Martin certainly feels like it is as a slot receiver but time can change that. Expect recruiting buzz to start surrounding the Gator athlete with the recent verified measurements and times. High level production as an offensive weapon should be expected moving forward. Speed that can’t be coached is alive and well here.
Anthony Davis Anthony Davis 5'10" | 175 lbs | LB Lake Cormorant | 2022 State MS | LB
Davis led the Gators as a junior in 2020 with 100 tackles from his OLB position. The LB prospect doesn’t “wow” with size or overall athletic ability but simply does a good job in making plays and being a solid tackler. Davis understands his job and succeeds because he positions himself in the right places at the right times. A keen ability to shoot the gap and be disruptive in run defense is evident on film. Davis also impresses by doing a nice job in zone coverage when called upon. Davis has an old school style to his game and plays with a hard nosed edge you love to see at LB. I don’t think a D2/D3 projection is out of the question at this time.
