That won’t be changing anytime soon, as Detroit MLK has three of the top four players in the state of Michigan on its roster. They form a deadly offensive trio, that will be more than a handful for opposing defenses to handle for the next two seasons.
Dante Moore Dante Moore 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Detroit King | 2023 State MI , 6’2, 180, Detroit King
Moore is the number one player in the class of 2023, and has many scholarship offers to play at top division one schools. Moore shined in his sophomore campaign, finishing with a 70% completion percentage and a 30/3 touchdown to interception ratio. A lot of that can be credited to former University of Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner, whom Moore has formed a closer personal and athletics based relationship with over the last few years. He’s got outstanding accuracy at all levels of the field, combined with an athleticism that allows him to escape the pocket and make throws that many could not make. It doesn’t hurt that he’s got access to a weapon like Kenny Merrieweather Kenny Merrieweather 6'3" | 245 lbs | DL Detroit King | 2023 State MI , the number one wide receiver in the 2023 class.
Johnathan Slack Johnathan Slack 6'3" | 260 lbs | OL Detroit King | 2023 State MI , 6’3, 260, Detroit King
Offensive lineman rarely get the credit that they deserve, but without Slacks efforts the Moore to Merriewather connection would not be possible. With his size, Slack has the opportunity to continue to progress into a great offensive tackle. He plays on both the right and left side for his high school team, and holds blocks very well. That’s what you’d expect from a top high school player, but his athleticism and foot speed really gives him the talent to shape his game more and more, as he goes through the second half of his high school career. Slack is already a great player, and should have no problem imposing his will for a full sixty minutes each and every week.
Kenny Merrieweather Kenny Merrieweather 6'3" | 245 lbs | DL Detroit King | 2023 State MI , 6’3, 190, Detroit King
Merrieweather is the third piece to this outstanding trio. His size jumps off the page, and will make him a highly sought after prospect for the next level, and a dominant one for his high school team. He’s been playing since his freshman year, as wide receivers with his size and skill set don’t exactly grow on trees. He’s an absolute mismatch on the field, and could see himself growing into a national recruit and star at the tight end position in the future. Much like former University of Florida tight end Kyle Pitts, Merrieweather has the opportunity to be one of those new age elite tight ends as he has a unique combination of size and speed, making his speed a problem for linebackers to deal with, and his size a problem for defensive backs. Those aren’t traits that every player can brag about, but it’s clear that Detroit King has a great thing going with this trio.
