These players bring the juice and that energy to the field. The saying defense wins championships is real and it starts with guys like these. Every single one of these players mentioned has played great these tournaments since the beginning of the year and some have sparked their recruitment. Here are some top defenders from around the state who are making their names known and getting there selfs the spotlight they deserve. Your top defenders from this month’s Pylon Dallas tournament.
Deveon Moses (22) | 5-11 DB | Pearland | South Texas Elite
Moses won tournament MVP with an outstanding performance racking up 5 INTs. He was flying all around the field making plays on the ball and only gave up 1 completion. On tape, you will find a corner who plays physically and can make tackles for losses. He can cover pretty well too and very solid zone coverage.
Had a great Time at the pylon tournament in Dallas this weekend. Tournament MVP!! @MikeRoach247 @Perroni247 @NickHarris247 @Jason_Howell @R_Brauninger @JClarkHFB247 pic.twitter.com/HpdAMFI0wN

DeJuan Lewis (22) | 5-11 DB | Shadow Creek | South Texas Elite
DeJuan was a ball hawk all tournament long as well. He made his name and presence known. He had multiple interceptions at the tournament. I really like this guy’s build lean build. His competitive nature brings energy to the field. This cover corner loves to hit and had an impressive 66 tackles and 4 INTs last season.

Vernon Glover Jr (23) | 6-0 DB | Dickinson | CATTAKEOVER
Vernon was a shutdown corner in Dallas. He only allowed 1 TD and 2 catches out of 7 games at the tournament. On tape, he is a very good open-field tackler and breaks on the ball fast. Shows he can tackle in open space. Next season he should prove to put some good tape out there.
Chase Davis (25) | TBD DB | CATTAKEOVER
I heard and saw great things from this young DB who was playing out of his age group and making plays on the field. Chase had 3 INTs, 6 PBU’s in only 4 games. A great player to keep an eye on in the future.
Ben Roberts (22) | 6-3 DB/LB | Eaton | 940 Elite
Wow, my eyes light up watching this guy’s film. He’s an absolute animal out there on the field. The first thing that will wow is his size, second his athletic ability at the DB position. At strong safety, Ben brings the lumber, he can deliver massive blows to a receiver in the air or ball carriers. I loved his pass coverage ability. Most definitely a great FBS/FCS level of an athlete and one of the best defenders on this list.
Jimmy Fex (22) | 6-0 LB | Mckinney Boyd | 940 Elite
Jimmy was impressively more athletic than some DBs out there on the field. I’ve covered this great linebacker before here at PrepRedzone and Jimmy is as good as they come on the defensive side of the ball. On tape, you will find a smart, athletic middle linebacker who will lead by example in his play on the field. He fills gaps. Racks up TFLs and makes plenty of plays happen. Big-time prospect still available.
Vaquan Buggs (22) | 6-0 DB | Bowie | TDG
This DB was able to pluck 3 INTs out of the air at the tournament. His coach called him a true ball hawk and he was very impressive. His recruitment is starting to heat up and he should prove to be one to keep an eye on next season. He possesses that closing speed and can make a lot of tackles out in space.

Jayveus Lyons (22) | 5-10 DB | Trinity | TDG
Jayveus has been the team’s leader in PBU’s this 7-on-7 season. He had two interceptions this past weekend because of his impressive ability to redirect whether in coverage or pursuit. Light on the feet and smooth in the hips.
Greg Johnson (22) | TBD DB | Dallas Skyline | TDG
Put him against the best and watch him work. Most shy away from the pressure to be great but not Greg. He has a fiercely competitive nature and comes from one of the most historical football schools in Texas. Known for producing top-tier talent and Greg is definitely on that list.
Qwincy Amos (23) | 5-10 DB | Earl Warren | FVII
Qwincy has been showcasing his skills and talents at these tournaments and proving himself to be one of the best cover corner prospects out of the San Antonio area. He played safety at the tournament but was able to compile 6 or 7 picks in just 4 games. He tracks the ball and attacks it. He shows he can be very physical at the LOS. Posses a ton of potential and makes plays out on the field with his elite awareness.
Doing this for the family😁

Wakil Mateen (23) | 6-0 LB | Brennan | FVII
A linebacker with running back speed. I like Wakil’s lean athletic build and his ability out there on the field. His pursuit, speed, and agility getting to the ball carrier are the most impressive. He can make plays out in space and covers just as well as a DB at the linebacker position.
Tevon Cortes (22) | 6-0 DB | Steele | FVII
Tevon has been very impressive and could very well be one of the best corner prospects still available. I like his size and build, possesses a long wingspan. Plays for the battle-tested division Steele competes in and faces tough competition that he holds his own in. He shows to be light on his feet and can flip his hips well and run with receivers. Makes plays on the ball and can track the ball and attack it very well. Should have a breakout senior campaign and be a great FBS / FCS level of a prospect.

Tyler Turner (23) | 6-0 DB | Brennan | FVII
Tyler has an impressive build. Very tall, long lean athletic-looking DB. His sophomore season, he put up some eye-popping numbers. 109 tackles. 5 TFLs, 5INTs, 2 PBUs, the 2-nd team all-district. Yeah, this guy can ball. Not only can he cover but obviously he doesn’t mind tackling. Something coaches love to see in a corner.
Jared Kerr (22) | 6-0 WR/DB | Lexington | Juice
This highly rated DB needs no introduction. But he was absolutely lockdown and showed why he is one of the best on both sides of the ball. His typical position is receiver but he was able to receive 3 INTs on the defensive side of the ball. Baylor and Oklahoma are hard after Jared and we will see where this prospect will end up in the near future. Currently holds 19 offers total and still counting.
Trent Leary (22) | 6-0 DB | Del Valle | Juice
Trent had an impressive 4 INTs at the tournament. He showed he can drive well on passes thrown in front and bate QBs into throwing his way. Leading to a dangerous result. A highly productive player and definitely another one to keep your eye on.
