Here are five leading rushers from the Class of 2023 Class 2A Ranks looking for productive junior seasons to spark their future recruitments.
Benson Berndt Benson Berndt 5'9" | 175 lbs | RB Beloit | 2023 State KS , 5’9”, 170, Beloit – Berndt is a solid young running back who can carry a big load. He finished his sophomore season with 1, 169 rushing yards. He had two games in 2020 where he rushed for 200-plus yards. Berndt follows his blockers well and can find the end zone. He had eight rushing touchdowns in 2020
Landon Boss Landon Boss 6'1" | 215 lbs | ATH Osage City | 2023 State KS , 6’1”, 205, Osage City – The Osage City quarterback is a player I hope to see play in person in 2021. Boss rushed for 1,001 yards in his sophomore season, while also throwing for 1,517 yards. He has good speed, a strong arm, and a nose for the end zone. He threw for 24 touchdowns and rushed for 11 more. He did throw eight interceptions in 2020 and will want to decrease that total in 2021.
Kade Harris Kade Harris 5'11" | 185 lbs | ATH TMP | 2023 State KS , 5’11”, 165, TMP Hays – Harris is an explosive athlete who will be enjoyable to watch grow as a player. He could have a role as a dual-threat quarterback or a load-carrying running back. The Monarch talent rushed for 865 yards and nine touchdowns, while also throwing for 1,212 yards and 16 scores.
Trey Sommer Trey Sommer 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Humboldt | 2023 State KS , 6’1”, 170, Humboldt – The position that Sommer plays in high school and possibly college is yet to be determined. He is listed as a tight end, quarterback, and linebacker. The bottom line is the young Humboldt Cub can play football. He rushed for 827 yards to rank among the Class 2A state leaders, but he also threw for 400-plus yards and made six catches for 109 yards.
Nash Money, 5’9”, 170, Wellsville – The Wellsville sophomore is hoping that one day perhaps he can make some money, money, money, playing football. Nash Money rushed for 778 yards for the Eagles, 240 of those yards came in one game. He has good speed and frame that can add size to as his game evolves.
