After gaining much popularity and interest with our DM’s becoming flooded with film, we will now be writing them their own article. Here’s a look at the offensive and defensive Washington spotlight players of the week:
Offensive Spotlight
Kyler Ronquillo Kyler Ronquillo 5'9" | 175 lbs | ATH Yelm | 2023 State WA , ATH, 5’9″ 170lbs, Yelm HS (C/O ’23)
Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/12372834/Kyler-Ronquillo
Ronquillo will be an exciting name to follow for the next couple years. As a sophomore, he racked up 797 total yards and 8 TD’s in just 6 games played. His position versatility gives him a tremendous upside for his recruitment. He lined up at QB, WR, DB, and returned punts, as is a threat anywhere he lines up. He displays solid top end speed for big play ability, and is a threat every time he touches the ball. At QB, he was primarily used as a wildcat for options and zone reads, and make excellent pull reads with a nice initial burst through the hole. He shows solid vision with the ability to slip and burst through narrow spaces and spring loose. He has good lateral agility to change direction or explode out of cuts. At WR, Ronquillo is a clean route runner with active feet at the top of his route. Good twitch all around s well. A willing blocker in the run game and a very good athlete all around. He holds a 4.0 GPA and is an athlete on the track team as well.
Defensive Spotlight
Cole Williams, DB, 5’11” 170lbs, Cheney HS (C/O ’21)
Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/10015615/Cole-Williams
Williams was a solid safety for Cheney and was awarded “All League DB”. He sizes up with an athletic frame and did a great job as both a 1-high and 2-high safety all around. He displayed excellent instincts and showed solid closing speed as a tackler. He was very effective in run support to recognize play flow immediately and out himself in position to make a play. In coverage, Williams has good range with the ability to make plays in the back half of the field. He also shows nice break on the ball, transitioning well out of his back pedal. He does a great job initiating immediate contact on WR’s to frequently jar the ball loose. A strength of his is being able to recognize routes and concepts to close on underneath routes, which saved numerous big plays, and he was even able to rack up some PBU’s as well. He plays with a high motor and possesses solid potential. He holds a 3.5 GPA and has NAIA and D3 offers from Valley City State, Presentation, Culver-Stockton, Whittier, Linfield, Pacific, Whitworth and remains uncommitted.
