Continue ReadingThis year’s linebacking group has only had a few guys pop up in recruiting circles so far. Mississippi has always been home to some great linebackers at all levels of college football, and more will continue to rise as the year goes on. This spring, 4 linebackers made waves in their recruitment, as they added their first or a new offer recently.
Jamarion Blackshear | Byhalia
A standout player at Byhalia High, Jamarion Blackshear plays WILL LB and has the athleticism to cover in space. Blackshear flies around the field and reads his keys quickly. He is constantly in the right place and is always the first player to get contact on the ball carrier. In the pass game, Blackshear can cover shallow zones and make open field tackles. Would love to see him add some more weight moving forward so he can become more of a thumper when he tackles. Blackshear added an offer from Millsaps College recently.
JD Nanney | Booneville
With over 122 tackles last season, JD Nanney was a force to be reckoned with on the field. Nanney plays like an old school MIKE LB. He is dominant versus the run and can get off of blocks easily in order to tackle the ball carrier. The Booneville product tackles well and is very efficient – he just doesn’t miss very often. Running solid in space, Nanney has a motor that never goes out. He constantly is making plays from across the field and hawking guys down from ways away. Last week, he added his first offer from Northeast Mississippi. Should continue to add offers as year progresses.
Jaharon Griffin Jaharon Griffin 6'0" | 230 lbs | LB Neshoba Central | 2022 State MS | Neshoba Central
A track runner, Jaharon Griffin Jaharon Griffin 6'0" | 230 lbs | LB Neshoba Central | 2022 State MS shows great speed on the field. Griffin is a fast and athletic modern day linebacker. He quickly reads plays and can pull the trigger. Versus the run, he uses his speed to meet the back in the backfield and dodge blockers on the way there. He tackles incredibly well and wraps up every time. Against the pass, Griffin can cover in space and come up as a blitzer to cause havoc on the quarterback. Really like this guy’s upside and surprised he doesn’t have more going on. Could see him signing with an FCS school by next February. Griffin lists an offer from Holmes.
Jordan Allen Jordan Allen 6'4" | 200 lbs | LB Clarksdale | 2022 State MS | Clarksdale
Jordan Allen Jordan Allen 6'4" | 200 lbs | LB Clarksdale | 2022 State MS has been a guy we have been high on for a while. At 6’4″ 200, he has the frame to be a dominant player at the next level. Allen has the athleticism to play in space and cover as well. He tackles well and can cause big time contact when get has a head full of steam. Allen is a twitched up player who can change direction well too. Against the pass, Allen can come off the edge as a pass rusher or use his speed to cover WRs and TEs. Love his upside. Really hard to find his athletic profile at the position. Allen lists offers from Louisiana Monroe, Coahoma, and Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Kelbee Holmes Kelbee Holmes 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Neshoba Central | 2022 State MS | Neshoba Central
Similar to his teammate, Kelbee Holmes Kelbee Holmes 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Neshoba Central | 2022 State MS is a fast and athletic playmaker. Holmes plays the game violent and physical. He is constantly using his strength to overpower guards and make big hits on the fall carrier. You can tell he loves contact as it seems that he is in on every tackle. Holmes reads guards well and can trigger quickly on plays. So far, he has collected offers from Hinds, Coahoma, and Holmes. Should have a big senior season and continue to add to that list.
