The area will likely produce two first-round NFL draft picks later this month (Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields) with many more already making a name for themselves across the college football world. The programs in north Georgia are excellent, there are resources everywhere, and each community does a great job around rallying around their young quarterbacks.
While everyone knows Gunner Stockton Gunner Stockton 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2022 State GA from Rabun County, and Cobb/Gwinnett County has plenty of young quarterbacks as well, but this list involves more quarterbacks north of Fulton County and towards the northern part of the state.
Davis Renard – Flowery Branch
Up in Hall county is where you’ll find a quarterback who is still unknown, but has an excellent junior season last year. He’s not a big quarterback at 6-foot-1 and just 165-pounds, but Renard played much bigger than his size and led the Falcons to a big season going 9-3. He was a consistent passer all season and ended up throwing for 2,655 yards and 23 touchdowns. His arm is stronger than you’d expect and he showed pin-point accuracy when pushing the ball downfield. He can zip the ball into tight windows on shorter throws and also knows how to put nice touch on his passes when throwing it deep. He throws a very catchable ball and always gives his receiver an opportunity to make a play. He showed poise, leadership, and gave it his all each game. Not only was he one of the top passers in north Georgia, but he also made plays with his feet, rushing for 467 yards and five touchdowns on the season.
Zach Holtzclaw – Dawson County
The 2022 QB had one of the best years of any QB north of Atlanta as he threw for over 2,500 yards and 25 TDs for the Tigers last season as a junior. The led Dawson County to a 4-2 region record last year with big wins over Northview, Lumpkin County, and White County. Holtzclaw also rushed for five touchdowns on the season. Holtzclaw only threw one INT over his last five games and did a great job taking care of the ball all season long. With Holtzclaw being a senior this year, many expect Dawson County to have one of their best teams in recent memory.
Clete Cooper – East Hall
In Gainesville is where you’ll find one of the more athletic quarterbacks around Lake Lanier. The East Hall playmaker can play multiple positions if he needed to, but he really showed off his arm last year as a junior. It wasn’t a great year overall for East Hall, but Cooper really shined when he started letting the ball fly around. He threw for an impressive 2,200 yards in just 8 games and threw all over rival West Hall for 390 yards and 3 TDs. He threw for over 260 yards in 6 of his 8 games and threw for over 300 yards in half the games he played in. If Cooper and East Hall get to have a full season in 2021, Cooper could be one of the leading passers in all of North Georgia this fall.
