Today, we continue on with a look at our listed of esteemed running backs as we evaluate the running backs ranked third, fourth and fifth in the class. Each of these great student-athletes checks-in in the top 60 in our overall rankings, which gives some insight into how good the running back position is in Indiana this year. These promising young players are ready to take on big roles this season. They will be sure to attract plenty of attention this upcoming fall.
Robert Lamar Robert Lamar 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Clarksville | 2023 State IN , 5’10, 170 pounds, Clarksville
We start off our list with Clarksville’s Robert Lamar Robert Lamar 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Clarksville | 2023 State IN . Lamar is a serious weapon at any spot on the field. Last year he ran for over 1,100 yards and averaged almost 115 yards per game. Lamar also posted seven receptions, indicating that he can be a factor coming out of the backfield as well. Robert Lamar Robert Lamar 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Clarksville | 2023 State IN plays in all three phases and he also racked up about three hundred yards in kickoff returns last season. Robert Lamar Robert Lamar 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Clarksville | 2023 State IN is a special player who can be the centerpiece of an offense at the college level.
Brad Gagnon Brad Gagnon 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB McCutcheon | 2023 State IN , 5’10, 185 pounds, McCutcheon
Brad Gagnon Brad Gagnon 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB McCutcheon | 2023 State IN is an emerging star at McCutcheon High School. Gagnon posted almost one thousand yards rushing last season. He is a very good north-south runner and he knows how to attack the hole. Gagnon is also impressive with the way that he finishes plays. Gagnon consistently falls forward allowing him to pick up extra yardage. His average of nearly five yards per carry is exactly what any college would want as we will help keep the team in short yardage situations. Brad Gagnon Brad Gagnon 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB McCutcheon | 2023 State IN is the kind of back that will allow his team to control the tempo of the game and he can wear-down a defense. Gagnon is an impressive prospect who shows plenty of promise heading into the 2021 season.
Trey Gibson Trey Gibson 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Hobart | 2023 State IN , 6’0, 175 pounds, Wheeler
The final running back currently ranked in our Class of 2023 state rankings is Trey Gibson Trey Gibson 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Hobart | 2023 State IN . Gibson is a playmaker all over the field. He is an elite-level running back, but Gibson is another player who contributes in all three phases. Offensively, he shows the versatility that coaches want to see at the next level. He does not just run good routes out of the backfield, he can line up at receiver and make plays in that role. As a runner, the first thing that I see on Gibson’s tape is how fast he is. He can get outside in a hurry and put pressure on the defense. On top of that, Trey Gibson Trey Gibson 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Hobart | 2023 State IN is an elusive back who can make any defender miss. I can see Trey Gibson Trey Gibson 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Hobart | 2023 State IN being an explosive playmaker at the next level.
The 2023 running back class in the state of Indiana is as exciting as it gets. The class shows a great blend of styles. But ultimately, these guys know how to create big plays and put points on the board. I cannot wait to see what these dynamic prospects have in store for their Junior seasons. College coaches would be sadly mistaken if they were not tuned in as well.
