These players will come from both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
Here are the best players in Region 2.
Owen Hendry | 6-4 QB, WR | Millry HS
Hendry is a phenomenal two-way player. During his junior year in 2020, he led Region 2 with 360 passing yards and went 17-of-32 passing. The incoming senior can play both wide receiver and quarterback when needed.
At wide receiver, he finished last season with three catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Hendry is a great quarterback that when he plays the position has great footwork and can read defenses well. But in the pass catching scheme, he is quick off the line of scrimmage and can outrun defenders on deep routes.
Jquan Stewart| 5-9 RB | Millry HS
Stewart finished second in the region in rushing yards last season with 425 yards on 86 carries.
The junior averaged 4.9 yards per rush and had six rushing touchdowns. Entering 2021, Stewart is the likely candidate to be Millry’s starting running back. He has great speed and can power through defenders for extra yards.
Connor Minus | OLB | Millry HS
Minus enters his freshman year in 2021 after putting up solid numbers as an eigth grader last season. He had 54 tackles and one forced fumble in eight games.
The freshman also plays tackle on the offensive line, but excels on both sides of the ball. Minus is a terrific player that can get into the backfield in a flash. He is also great at reading the quarterback and forcing a pass to the other side of the field.
DeEric Taylor | 5-6 WR, CB | Fruitdale HS
Taylor is an exceptional player on both sides of the ball.
At receiver, the incoming junior excels at catching any pass thrown his way. He has great hands for his size and creates a mismatch with taller defenders.
On the defensive side, Taylor is an excellent cornerback that can press a receiver at the line of scrimmage and go stride for stride on any route and break up a pass.
Jaland Lewis | 6-2 RB, OLB | Sweet Water HS
Lewis is a sensational two-way player. He could end up as the best running back in Region 2 this upcoming season. He has terrific field vision and can stiff arm defenders with ease to gain more yards.
At linebacker, Lewis has great skills that help him tackle any ball carrier in his way. He is great at disguising as a blitzer and then dropping into coverage upon the snap to break up a pass.
Walker Thompson | 5-10 QB, OLB | Sweet Water HS
At quarterback, Thompson excels at making the correct reads to get the ball to his open man. The incoming senior is great with his feet in scrambling outside of the pocket to gain yards.
Thompson has great field vision and knows when to audible to a different play. The signal-caller brings great arm strength to his passing game.
Jamarlin Albert | 6-0 DE | Sweet Water HS
Albert is an exceptional defensive end that has great size. At 6’0″, 215 pounds, the incoming senior may be one of the best unknown defensive linemen in the state.
He is great off the snap at getting past his blocker and putting pressure in the backfield.
