The top players in the final region of Class 1A could be names to keep an eye on as the 2021 high school football season nears in Alabama.
Brayden Kyle | 6-2 QB, SS | Decatur Heritage Christian
Kyle finished as the top quarterback in Region 8 last season. He passed for 2,752 yards with 34 touchdowns to only six interceptions. The junior finished with a QBR of 131.1 in 2020.
The incoming senior is an outstanding player that has significant arm strength and is a do it all quarterback. He finished with 1,093 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns last season on the ground.
Alex Malone | WR | Decatur Heritage Christian
Malone finished with 558 receiving yards last season and 10 touchdowns.
Malone is a standout player that has great size and can outmatch smaller defenders from the jump. He has great versatility and can come back to the ball.
Josh Cooper | 5-9 WR | Hackleburg HS
Cooper is another exceptional receiver in Area 14. The incoming senior recorded 26 receptions for 364 yards and two touchdowns last season.
Entering his senior year, expect Cooper’s production to skyrocket. He has great hands and is good at shifting past defenders after the catch.
Joe Carter | 5-10 WR, OLB | Hackleburg HS
Carter led Region 8 in tackles in 2020 with 64. He plays the outside linebacker position well and has great awareness on the field.
On any given play, Carter is making his presence known to the ball carrier.
Tyran Murphy | 5-8 RB, CB | R.A. Hubbard
Murphy is a flashy tailback that is quick off the edge and can fly past defenders.
He also has solid power in his rushing ability. Murphy can take any handoff and turn it into a positive gain. The incoming senior running back could lead Region 8 in rushing yards in 2021.
Keyondrick Cobb | 6-3 WR, FS | R.A. Hubbard
Cobb is a sensational receiver with good traits. At 6’3′”, he is a length receiver that has advantage over smaller defenders.
He is excellent on the outside and can make over the shoulder catches look easy. He runs routes well and is also good in the blocking scheme.
Tristen Harrison | 5-9 MLB, DE | Waterloo HS
Harrison may be Waterloo’s best defensive player entering the 2021 season.
At middle linebacker, he excels at reading the quarterback and knowing where a pass is going. But he can also blitz and make stops in the backfield.
When Harrison is playing defensive end, he excels at moving past the offensive lineman to get pressure into the backfield or shift direction and make a tackle.
