The initial 6 game season was hindered by uncertainty, a county- wide cancellation in week one, and declined participation; but was completed successfully. Several athletes who already held college scholarships chose to opt-out of their senior year, but this gave many other players the opportunity to step into the spotlight. Perhaps the success of a spring season might be a sign of things to come in the state of Maryland moving forward, similar to our southern counterparts. In the meantime, here is a list of some of the top players in the county.
Quarterbacks
Rishon Holmes Rishon Holmes 6'1" | 195 lbs | DB Milford Mill | 2021 State MDMilford Mill Academy
6’2’’ 205
Holmes was just simply dominant and the Top Offensive player in the county. He led the Millers to an undefeated season, and was able to stifle defenses with his arm and legs.
Jailen Knight
Perry Hall HS
6’0’’ 180
Knight helped the Gators to one of the biggest turnarounds of the year. After going win-less last season, Perry Hall was a force to be dealt with this year and Jailen Knight’s arm was a big part of that.
Running Backs
Rodney Nelson
Franklin HS
5’8’’ 170
Nelson had one of the most productive seasons in the state for a running back. The speedy Junior shared the backfield last year with Oregon commit, Von Reames Von Reames 5'7" | 160 lbs | RB Franklin | 2021 MD , but was able to show his dominance this year and lead Franklin to an undefeated season.
Zavion Woodard Zavion Woodard 5'8" | 200 lbs | RB New Town | 2022 MD
New Town HS
5’8’’ 190
Woodard continues to be one of the best running backs in the state. For the past two seasons, he has been on of the state’s leading rushers.
James Jones
Owings Mills
6’2’’ 200
Jones is a dominant force in the backfield who has one of the best combinations of size and speed in the state.
Wide Receivers
Jonathan Thompson
Dulaney HS
6’2’’ 190
Thompson was a home run threat for the Lions offense this past season. His size & speed created mismatches for defensive backs.
Speedy Morante
Franklin HS
5’11’’ 170
Speedy ,who played plenty of snaps at defensive back this past season, still managed to be one of the most dominating receivers in the county.
Marcus Nicholson
Dundalk HS
6’2’’ 190
Nicholson was a force for the Owls this past season. The Junior receiver consistently made plays every week and helped Dundalk to a 4-1 record.
Tight Ends
Gino Pisano
Hereford HS
6’2’’ 220
Pisano was the main passing option for the Bulls in a run heavy offense. Even with opposing teams preparing for Pisano, he still managed to be one of the best Tight Ends in the county.
Quinten Wright
Overlea HS
6’4’’ 225
Wright’s size, leaping ability, and hands created a mismatch for opposing defensive backs. The Falcons’ Senior athlete was also used to create match up problems lining up as a true wide receiver, and managed to create an equal amount of havoc on the defensive side of the ball.
Athletes
Jaden Gordon
Woodlawn HS
5’11’’ 170
Gordon, who is only a Sophomore, proved to be one of the most explosive athletes in the county. He played a number of position for the Warriors this past season such as a quarterback, receiver, defensive back, & running back.
Tahseen Howard
Millford Mill Academy
6’1’’ 190
Howard made plays for the Millers on both sides of the ball this past season. Even with him backing up the Millers’ play-maker, Rishon Holmes Rishon Holmes 6'1" | 195 lbs | DB Milford Mill | 2021 State MD , at Quarterback he managed to be an equally imposing threat for opposing defenses. Tahseen also was force in the Milford secondary.
Offensive Line
Zyan Bridges
6’2’’ 270
Parkville HS
Bridges has quick feet for an offensive lineman and was the main reason why the Knights had one of the top rushing attacks in the state.
Angel Figueroa
6’1’’ 280
Milford Mill Academy
Figueroa was a big part of the reason why Milford Mill Academy had one of the most explosive offenses in the state.
Brandon Carr
6’4’’ 305
Franklin HS
Carr helped spearhead one of the state’s top programs to an undefeated season.
Brandon Ritchie
6’1 330
Woodlawn HS
Ritchie was one of the more dominant run blocking linemen in the county. Plays with a chip on his shoulder and an attitude that you look for in offensive linemen.
Branden Hollis Branden Hollis 6'7" | 300 lbs | OL Dundalk | 2021 MD
6’8’’ 345
Dundalk HS
Hollis is a massive figure and has the prototypical frame to play at the next level. He was a big part of the Owls success on both sides of the ball.
