Talent from NE Ohio was on full display, albeit it was windy and chilly weather. Watching prospects perform in cooler climates also helped distinguish which players really wanted to compete.
Here are my notes on some interesting players from the Lorain Showcase.
The quarterback that caught my eye right away was Tyler Tusai, 6’3 190lb 2024 from Parma Padua; he was very accurate and strong. Brunwick’s feature QB Ethan Fritz also looked very confident throwing the football while giving leadership vibes the entire camp. Adam Diaz of Shaker heights is more of a Patrick Mahomes style QB and had an impressive day throwing the football, accurate and athletic! Other QBs in attendance that made noise in 2020 were Kaden Holmes Kaden Holmes 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Fremont Ross | 2023 State OH 2023 of Fremont Ross and Josh Pappas 2024 of St. Ignatius.
Running Backs are always in a tough situation when it comes to evaluations at camps in general, but there are things we can learn about a player’s potential. For instance, Will Ostrowski of Westlake looked very athletic and agile in open field drills and William Rumple of Walsh. JaiVeon Baker, 2023 RB, out of Benedictine, showed off his athleticism as one of the fastest kids at camp. Gilmour Academy RB Santino Harper is also another player to keep an eye on; his athletic ability is off the charts, he will be a fun prospect to watch out of the 2023 class.
Tight Ends:
Aiden Diaz, the 6’3 200lb 2023 from Shaker Heights, is one prospect with many upsides in his game. He moves very well while running routes and his hands do him justice the passing game. A young TE who also stood out was 2024 Freddie Borkey of Padua.
The wideouts are always exciting to watch, from drills to competition, especially when you have many Alpha males around. No WR made a bigger impact on that day than Colin Pierce, the fastest man at the camp. Pierce will be entering his senior season this fall at Hudson and will be a huge impact player. Jakob “JD” Serwatka of Brunswick also had a good showing and will be on many of the coaches’ radars this fall. Marvin Conkle of Benedictine was one of the most dominant on that day, has serious talent.
