South Arkansas has long been a place to find many schools in multiple classifications and conferences that produce great High School Football Athletes for the collegiate level. Some schools in South Arkansas are well known to many colleges across the nation and many of those colleges are Division 1 schools but not all players get to go D1. Defense is well played by these schools in the South part of Arkansas, and most are yearly contenders for their classification’s State Championship, respectively. Linebackers are no exception and here are five LBs from just some of these schools I am speaking of who are gamechangers.
Jason Patrick Jr- 2022 OLB Prescott Curley Wolves
Jason is everything a college football team should want in a LB. Jason stands at 6’0 and weighs in at 180 pounds. Jason’s 40 time is 4.8 seconds, and it shows on film. The first thing that sticks out about Jason on film is his willingness to hit the opponent no matter their size. Jason’s Junior season was spent terrorizing offenses and he recorded 39 solo tackles, 77 assist, 116 TT, 13 TFLs, 1 sack, 1 FF, and 1 INT. Jason has great field awareness and uses his eyes to find the ball carrier quickly. Jason meets the blocker in the hole, sheds the block well, and makes the tackle. Jason has great speed which he uses to be anywhere on the field the ball carrier is making the tackle. Colleges should have Jason on their list and keep their eyes on him if they are not already.
Alex Turley Alex Turley 6'0" | 175 lbs | LB Arkadelphia | 2022 State AR – 2022 MLB Arkadelphia Badgers
Alex plays LB very well for the badgers. Alex runs a 4.8/40 and uses his speed to his advantage. Alex stands at 6’0 and weighs in at 175 pounds. Alex recorded 8 solo tackles, 8 TT, and 1 FR in just 6 games played. What I like about Alex is on film he shows heart and toughness. He meets the blockers and sheds the block well. Alex seems to have great game awareness and is a great tackler. Alex is usually always in the mix for the tackle. Colleges should have Alex on their list because I believe the best is still to come for Alex.
Zander Hemphill- 2022 OLB Warren Lumberjacks
Zander is another great LB who plays for the Warren Lumberjacks in South Arkansas. Zander’s abilities are great and shows on film. Zander runs a 4.7/40. He stands at 6’1 and weighs in at 188 pounds. One of the first things I noticed about Zander is he plays the zone defense well and if the QB takes off running, Zander shows great pursuit skills. Zander has great speed which allows him to be a great tackler anywhere on the field. Zander is also very great in punt coverage. Zander is another LB colleges should be watching if they are not already.
Steven Wright Steven Wright 5'10" | 150 lbs | LB Nashville | 2022 State AR – 2022 MLB Nashville Scrappers
Steven is another LB who loves contact. Steven runs a 4.9/40, stands at 5’10, and weighs in at 150 pounds. In only 3 games Steven recorded 4 solo tackles, 5 TT, 1 FR, and 1 sack. On film Steven shows great awareness and blitzes well. Steven is a great tackler and seemed to be everywhere on the field using his speed to his advantage. Steven takes on blockers head on and sheds the block well. Steven has great potential and colleges should have him on their list because I think Steven has a lot left to show us.
Sage Peugh- 2022 MLB Glen Rose Beavers
Sage plays defense with a lot of potential and shows he has the ability to be a collegiate level LB. Sage stands at 5’8 and weighs in at 172 pounds. Sage runs a 5.0/40. In the small sample size of film Sage shows he has toughness and is willing to play DL from time to time which makes him an asset. Sage uses his hands well to get off blocks and make the tackle. Sage is defiantly a player flying under the radar and is ready to show us all how great he can be this Fall. Colleges should keep an eye on Sage from this point forward because sky is the limit for him.
