This article will consist of players that have impressed since their sophomore year and players primed to make some noise their senior season. In Central Arkansas, a person does not have to drive far to see some great defensive football played. Offenses win games with scoring points, but defenses win championships, and I will always believe that. These five players are some colleges need to keep close eyes on from this point forward.
Zimri Anderson- 2022 MLB Searcy Lions
Zimri is a total package LB for the Searcy Lions. Measuring 6’0 and weighing in at 215 pounds, Zimri runs a 4.6/40. His Junior year was spent impressing with 32 solo tackles, 85 TT, and 1 TFL. Zimri uses his speed to fly all over the field making tackles and on blocking for interception returns. Zimri breaks down in the hole meeting blockers head on not giving up any ground. Zimri is a great form tackler and has great eyes which help him find ball carriers no matter where they run to. Zimri is an athlete that opposing offenses need to make special game plans for if they do not want him disrupting their night. Colleges should have Zimri on their list to see from this point forward and especially this fall at Lion Stadium.
Andrew Miller- 2022 LB Harding Academy Wildcats
Doing most of his damage from the RB position, Andrew can also play some incredibly good defense from the LB position. Andrew measures in at 6’0 and weighs 195 pounds. Andrew has put up some great defensive numbers his first two seasons in High School recording 68 solo tackles, 85 TT, 3 TFL, 1 FR, and 3 INT. Andrew uses his great speed and eyes to fly around making tackles. Opposing offenses will have Andrew at the top of their list for keys to victory and not just because of Andrew’s offensive capabilities. Colleges should be watching Andrew early and often.
Ayden Rowton Ayden Rowton 6'1" | 210 lbs | LB Lonoke | 2022 State AR – 2022 OLB Lonoke Jackrabbits
Ayden is a player that is built for the LB position but is a player who is willing to help his team wherever his coaches need him. Ayden stands at 6’1 and weighs in at 210 pounds. What makes Ayden a special player and why colleges should be watching him from this point forward is because of Ayden’s willingness to play DL, which is where he spent most of his Junior year. That does not mean he is not a LB it just means he is a plug and fit type of player. Ayden recorded 12 TT, 1 TFL, and 1 QB hurry his Junior year. In an early 2020 season match vs Carlisle Bisons, Ayden recovered two fumbles. Colleges should be keeping an eye on Ayden if they are not already.
Aaron Pouncy Aaron Pouncy 5'7" | 175 lbs | LB Cabot | 2022 State AR – 2022 MLB Cabot Panthers
Aaron is another LB who knows what playing his position means to his defense. Aaron stands at 5’7 and weighs in at 174 pounds but do not let that fool you because Aaron plays the LB position like a mad Panther. Aaron recorded 24 solo tackles, 30 TT, 1 FR, 1 PD, and 1 INT his Junior season. I am not sure if I have seen a LB play the screen as well as Aaron does, and he uses his eyes and speed to fly around making great tackles anywhere on the field. Aaron is certainly a big part of the Cabot defense and I believe his best is yet to come. Colleges should be watching Aaron.
Nick Huett Nick Huett 5'10" | 205 lbs | LB Greenbrier | 2022 State AR – 2022 MLB Greenbrier Panthers
Nick measures in at 5’10 and weighs 205 pounds. Nick runs a 4.9/40 and on film I thought Nick is faster than a 4.9/40. Nick is all over the field during the game on defense. Recording 41 solo tackles, 71 TT, 5 TFLs, 2 sacks, 1 FR, and 1 FF his Junior year. Nick meets blockers in the hole and uses his great eyes to find the ball carrier. Nick can blitz the QB from the MLB spot well and his speed allows him to be anywhere the ball carrier wants to go making great tackles. Nick also plays well on kickoffs speeding down the field from one side to the other making the tackle before the runner can get anywhere. Nick is certainly a LB colleges should be watching closely if they are not already.
