It’s officially April and with the NFL Draft later this month, mock drafts and Big Boards are all you’ll hear about if you’re a football fan. We’re leaning into that with Big Boards. Every Thursday and Friday, we’ll release a new Big Board, ranking the top ten players at their position, regardless of class. Now, similar to our prospect rankings, these rankings are based on who these players are as college prospects. Stay tuned each week for two more Big Boards, ranking and looking at the absolute best players at their respective positions. Today, we continue our Big Board series with a look at the best wide receivers in Oklahoma.
1) Talyn Shettron Talyn Shettron 6'3" | WR Edmond Santa Fe | 2022 State OK – 2022 – Edmond Santa Fe
This one should be obvious as Edmond Santa Fe 2022 wide receiver Talyn Shettron Talyn Shettron 6'3" | WR Edmond Santa Fe | 2022 State OK has been arguably the state’s best wide receiver for over a year now. Since emerging as a freshman, Shettron has been an absolute star for Edmond Santa Fe and is without a doubt the top skill position prospect in Oklahoma, regardless of class today. Shettron continues to get better every time he steps on the field and has been dominant in camp settings this offseason. Already committed to Oklahoma, Shettron was the WR MVP at the Rivals camp and is also an Under Armour All American. He’s one of the best receivers Oklahoma has produced in recent memory.
2) Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK (TE) – 2023 – Bixby
Without a doubt, the hottest prospect in Oklahoma’s 2023 class has been Bixby tight end Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK . The Bixby big man had a breakout season in 2020 and has been enjoying the last few months because of it. Big college programs from all over the country have flooded Hasz’s inbox with offers as he seems to be picking up one every other day on average at this point. Hasz is definitely the real deal and what’s scary is how much better he will be by the time he’s done in high school. Another scary thought is what he could be as a defensive prospect as well. He played some defense in 2020 and was a wrecking ball. But for now, we have him on offense.
3) Micah Tease Micah Tease 6'1" | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK – 2023 – Booker T Washington
It didn’t take long last year for Booker T Washington 2023 wide receiver Micah Tease Micah Tease 6'1" | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK to make an impact for the Hornets. In their very first game of the season, he showed that he had the potential to be Booker T’s home run threat at the wide receiver position. However, the season didn’t end the way Tease and the Hornets would have liked because they were absolutely decimated with injury after injury. Now that their key players are getting healthy, the Hornets are ready to get back in the state title conversation. Tease is part of a very talented 2023 class at Booker T Washington and if healthy, they’ll contend for a gold ball.
4) Morgan Pearson Morgan Pearson 6'2" | 220 lbs | ATH Plainview | 2023 State OK – 2023 – Plainview
Plainview 2023 wide receiver Morgan Pearson Morgan Pearson 6'2" | 220 lbs | ATH Plainview | 2023 State OK is without a doubt one of the best two-sport athletes in Oklahoma today. He’s already picked up offers from D1 schools in football as well as in baseball. Pearson had a strong sophomore season, despite Plainview having an up and down year as a team. Pearson is a great athlete that is only getting better every time he steps on the field. He’s still young as well and if he grows an inch or two, he’s going to be a match-up nightmare against every DB he comes against. He’s already big, but with the way he plays, another inch or two would make him nearly unstoppable.
5) Andre Dollar Andre Dollar 6'4" | TE Mustang | 2022 State OK (TE) – 2022 – Mustang
This was the toughest prospect in this position group to rank. Mustang 2022 tight end Andre Dollar Andre Dollar 6'4" | TE Mustang | 2022 State OK , who is already committed to Oregon, missed his entire junior season due to injury and we didn’t get a chance to see him at all. What will he be like when he gets back on the field. Before the 2020 season, Dollar was considered a top five prospect, regardless of position. But after an injury kept him down for the entire year, it’s tough to evaluate what he’ll be when he gets back. Nevertheless, we could be dead wrong here and when he gets back on the field, he’ll shoot back up the board to where he was before the injury.
6) Robert Spears-Jennings Robert Spears-Jennings 6'2" | WR Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK – 2022 – Broken Arrow
Before the 2020 season, Broken Arrow’s Robert Spears-Jennings Robert Spears-Jennings 6'2" | WR Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK was on our short list for players that were primed for a breakout season. When we watched Spears-Jennings playing in 2019, it was mainly on the JV squad but he was hands down the best player on the field every time he stepped out on it. He had that big play ability and we believed that it would translate to the varsity level. Not only did it translate but Spears-Jennings was lights out and became Broken Arrow’s top target at the receiver position. We’ve mentioned this already this offseason but with new head coach Josh Blankenship coming in, Spears-Jennings could have an even bigger 2021.
7) Mason Gilkey Mason Gilkey 6'3" | WR Pawhuska | 2022 State OK – 2022 – Pawhuska
If Oklahoma high school football had fantasy football, Pawhuska 2022 wide receiver Mason Gilkey Mason Gilkey 6'3" | WR Pawhuska | 2022 State OK would be the runaway pick for top receiver in the state. He has been putting up monster numbers over the last two seasons as the top receiver for North Texas signee Bryce Drummond Bryce Drummond 6'3" | QB Pawhuska | 2021 State OK . It will be interesting to see how Gilkey and his production looks in 2021 as Pawhuska will have a new quarterback. However, Gilkey isn’t just a stat sheet stuffer, he’s got good size, he’s an outstanding athlete and can out jump almost every DB he goes up against. Gilkey is one of the state’s best small school football player in the state today.
8) Cole Adams Cole Adams 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK – 2023 – Owasso
Owasso’s 2023 wide receiver Cole Adams Cole Adams 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK isn’t going to be as widely known as Santa Fe’s Talyn Shettron Talyn Shettron 6'3" | WR Edmond Santa Fe | 2022 State OK . But just like Shettron, Adams has been that guy for the Rams since his breakout freshman season. Adams is a prototypical slot receiver because he’s under 6’0. However, it doesn’t matter where Adams lines up on the field, he’s a match-up nightmare and has played well against all competition. When it comes to the wide receiver position, size does matter and in recruiting, it matters a lot. We don’t care. We’ve seen Adams in person several times over the last two seasons and he’s one of the absolute best in Oklahoma.
9) RJ Jackson RJ Jackson 6'4" | DL Choctaw | 2023 State OK (TE) – 2023 – Choctaw
Choctaw 2023 tight end RJ Jackson RJ Jackson 6'4" | DL Choctaw | 2023 State OK is a very intriguing prospect in Oklahoma’s 2023 class. Similar to Pearson at Plainview, Jackson is also an outstanding baseball player and could end up going down that road. However, Jackson also has options on the football field. Jackson was great as a tight end for the Yellowjackets last year but he also has the frame and motor to play a little defense and be a nightmare at the defensive end position. But there is no doubt that when we got a chance to see Jackson in person last year, he was at his best when he was lined up as a tight end. Jackson is a player that could fly up this board after this fall.
10) Gavin Freeman Gavin Freeman 5'10" | WR Heritage Hall | 2022 State OK – 2022 – Heritage Hall
This is a perfect example of how deep and loaded the wide receiver position is in Oklahoma right now. When we initially sat down to do this exercise, we didn’t think Heritage Hall’s Gavin Freeman Gavin Freeman 5'10" | WR Heritage Hall | 2022 State OK would be 10. We thought he would be several spots higher but the position is very deep right now. Freeman is right there with those other guys and showed it last year for the Chargers. He was a breakout star and Heritage Hall’s best playmaker. He scored from all over the field and made big play after big play. He wasn’t just racking up touchdowns, he was doing it in different fashions and was striking from wherever the Chargers were on the field.
