Prep Redzone Oklahoma was once again on hand for a stellar 7v7 tournament over the weekend. This time, C4 Training in Durant played host to an outstanding one-day event on Saturday. Michael Knight and I were on hand from start to finish and saw some spectacular performances from individuals as well as teams. We start off our 7v7 coverage by looking at our top performers. Make sure to check out Michael’s Top Performers if have not already. We’ll also have breakdowns on some of the 2022, 2023, and 2024 standouts from this weekend, so make sure to stay tuned to Prep Redzone Oklahoma as we continue to provide the absolute best 7v7 and offseason coverage you’ll find in Oklahoma.
Kane Donovan Kane Donovan 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB John Marshall | 2022 State OK – 2022 QB – John Marshall – Played with Yayo 18U
Kane Donovan Kane Donovan 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB John Marshall | 2022 State OK was a fun evaluation when we updated our rankings following the end of the season, I really liked his athleticism outside of the pocket and his ability to make plays on the move. Although there’s no rush or real pressure in 7on7 for the most part, Kane once again showed a lot of those abilities on Saturday. He had some nice throws from the “pocket” and on designed rollouts. We have not seen a lot of Kane in person but what we’ve seen so far has been impressive.
Camden Dooley – 2023 WR – Coweta – Played with Sooner7 15U and Sooner7 Black 18U
Cam Dooley has been a consistent and reliable target for the Sooner7 15U squad at most of the tournaments we’ve seen him in so far, but he took it to another level on Saturday in Durant. Dooley played the majority of his snaps out wide as opposed to in the slot, but he ran a variety of routes and quite frankly did a little bit of everything. He beat guys over the top with speed, over the middle with good route running and spatial awareness, and he had a pair of jump ball catches that may have been the best of the day. Dooley impressed a lot of people on Saturday and as a result, was one of a few guys from the 15U team that was bumped up to the Sooner7 18U team in the afternoon. Cam has improved every time I’ve seen him, which is what you love to see out of young players like himself.
Kanijal Thomas Kanijal Thomas 6'1" | DB Del City | 2023 State OK – 2023 DB – Del City – Played with Sooner7 23′ 18U
With this tourney being in Durant, there were plenty of Oklahoma teams in attendance, which means lots of opportunity for some heated in-state battles. One of the most notable matchups of that nature from Saturday was the Sooner7 23’ vs C4 Oklahoma 18U game. In C4’s previous games that day, Plainview star WR Morgan Pearson Morgan Pearson 6'2" | 220 lbs | ATH Plainview | 2023 State OK was having his way with just about every DB and seemingly caught everything. That is, until he was matched up with Kanijal one on one. Despite being the smaller player of the two in both height and weight, Kanijal outmuscled Pearson and held him to only a couple of catches the entire game for minimal yards. After seeing Kanijal at a few tournaments it is becoming clearer and clearer to me that he’s on another level compared to even some of the best players in the state and he is still getting better each time he goes out. Scary stuff if you have to go against him.
Dalton Person – 2023 WR/DB – Verdigris – Played with Sooner7 23′ 18U
Dalton is another player that has really come into his own lately and is playing some of his best ball. He is usually utilized in the slot in these tournaments but Sooner7 lined him up out wide quite a bit on Saturday, and I imagine he’s happy they did as he had one of his best performances to date. Dalton was a key piece on offense in Sooner7’s comeback vs C4 in the game we mentioned above. He had a couple big-time catches for Tds late in the game that pushed them ahead of C4, one on a jump ball in traffic and the other off of a double move where he left the defender in the dust. Watch out for Dalton to be a much bigger part of the Sooner7 23’ offense going forward after this performance.
Gavin Frakes Gavin Frakes 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Norman North | 2022 State OK – 2022 QB – Norman North – Played with Sooner7 Black 18U
After back-to-back weekends of impressing us, Frakes has gone from a Breakout player to a top performer. He did not have a perfect weekend, and even though he had a lot of good passes dropped, he was still making those throws and he was doing so at a fairly consistent level. Gavin is always one of the most physically impressive QBs at these camps and tournaments and he is now slowly becoming one of the most impressive QBs from Oklahoma overall. He still has a ways to go before we crown him as one of the top dogs at the position but the potential is certainly there
