Easton won the game 24-0, but the defense was the story of the game for both teams. C-SD’s defense made life difficult for the high-powered Easton offense. Junior Tayon Fletcher, and Senior Jay’Zon Roberts, got their hands on interceptions, while sophomore Nisim Hawkins was able to force a fumble. For Easton, they shut down C-SD’s offense. Senior Shareef Curry had a hat-trick of interceptions, while the run defense was led by senior Jarin Winters. It was a great game to cap off this spring season.
Here’s how these players were able to stand out.
Tayon Fletcher, Cambridge-South Dorchester, MLB/RB, 5’9″ 200lbs, 2022
Tayon was all over the field for Cambridge on Friday night. On defense, he played an outside linebacker role. This allowed him to showcase his speed and athleticism. In the first quarter, he came away with an interception while Easton was driving in the red zone. He showed good recognition in zone coverage to get in the passing lane. On offense, Tayon had a good day running the ball. He runs hard and is able to read the opening in the offensive line. Overall, this is a player to watch for Cambridge going into next year. There is little doubt that he will be a big player for their championship push next fall.
Shareef Curry, Easton, CB/WR, 2022
On Friday night, Shareef was the player of the game for me. He made the play of the night with an interception in the first quarter, with Cambridge in the red zone. And it seemed like he was always the one making the play whenever Cambridge was trying to throw the ball. He showed a very good instinct for the ball, consistently doing well to adjust on poor throws. With each interception, Shareef showed a natural ability to get the ball at its highest point. This game will be a great launching point going into next fall.
Jarin Winters, Easton, LB/RB 6’1″ 220lbs, 2021
Jarin is the vocal. and emotional, leader of Easton’s defense. Against Cambridge, he was able to showcase his physicality and aggressive nature. He has very good acceleration when diagnosing the run. And when blitzing, there are few in the Bayside Conference that can match his speed. When making the tackle, he does a good job of driving through the body of the runner. He did not miss a tackle during Friday’s game. He also had numerous TFLs and was in the backfield to recover a botched hand-off. This game was a great cap to a very good career at Easton
John Carrieri, Easton, WR, 6’0″ 160lbs, 2023
On Saturday, John did a great job of being the go-to guy when Easton’s offense needed a spark. Throughout the game, he was their number one option for Ryan O’Connor. He is a smooth route runner and does a good job vs zone coverage. John does a good job offending the space between zone defenders. He has soft hands and snags the ball out of the air. He does not allow it to get into his body which allows him to secure the catch. Only a sophomore, John will see a larger role going into next fall and could be the next playmaker coming out of Easton.
