They have the most difficult job on the field, yet, seeing the talent that we are fortunate enough to get to watch here in Indiana, you may not think the job is too complex. So with a crucial summer fast approaching for the state’s top prospects, let’s take a look at the top five quarterbacks in our Prep Network Indiana rankings for the Class of 2022. These players are sure to light it up on Friday nights this fall.
The top-rated Senior-to-be-quarterback Tayven Jackson Tayven Jackson 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB Center Grove | 2022 State IN from Center Grove High School. If Jackson’s junior season is to serve as any indication, are on the horizon for him in 2021. A season ago, Jackson led Center Grove to a perfect 14-0 season while completing over 60% of his passes with a touchdown to interception ratio of better than three to one. Jackson is also a major contributor in the run game as he had six touchdown runs a year ago. At 6’4 and 185 pounds, Jackson has the perfect build for a quarterback to be successful both in the pocket as well as well as improvising when the play breaks down. Tayven Jackson Tayven Jackson 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB Center Grove | 2022 State IN is set for a tremendous year at Center Grove this fall.
Next, we have Gibson Southern’s Brady Allen Brady Allen 6'5" | 200 lbs | QB Gibson Southern | 2022 State IN . Allen is the number ten overall player in this Indiana’s Class of 2022 by our rankings. Allen has great height for a quarterback at 6’6, which will allow him to easily see over the defense and to make the right reads. Allen threw an astounding thirty-one touchdown passes last season while throwing only seven interceptions. Allen has a great ability to make the right decision and keep the offense on schedule. Allen is a true pocket passer that shows remarkable poise and presence on the field. He has what it takes put on a show this upcoming season for Gibson Southern.
The next quarterback on our list is Central Catholic’s Clark Barrett Clark Barrett 6'5" | 215 lbs | QB Central Catholic | 2022 State IN . Barrett promises to be on the best prospects in the Lafayette area for the Class of 2022. Barrett threw for over 2,100 yards last season, but it is his ability to protect the football that sticks out the most to me. He managed a three to one touchdown to interception ratio last year. At 6’5 and 215 pounds, Barrett will be able to push the ball vertically, but more importantly, he can do so while avoiding throwing costly interceptions.
The last quarterback prospect that we will look at today is Fort Wayne Carroll’s Jeff Becker Jeff Becker 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Carroll | 2022 State IN . Becker stands out in a talent-rich Fort Wayne area as his numbers last year were off the charts. He averaged over 250 passing yards per game and he threw a staggering 33 touchdown passes and only nine interceptions. Becker also ran for ten touchdowns as a Junior. Becker’s size attribute may not match up quite as well as the other quarterbacks on this list, however, his game speaks for itself. I see many comparisons that can be made to a quarterback like Zach Wilson. Becker has all the talent to lead to the Carroll Chargers to a special season this year.
Indiana has a deep talent pool at the quarterback position this year. Given the position’s importance, I am going to a look at a the under-the-radar quarterbacks later this offseason. These are the top five in our rankings for the Class of 2022. Each of these impressive student-athletes show amazing skillsets and leadership abilities. These five are just a small part of the reason why big time college coaches need to have their eyes fixated on the Hoosier state this year.
