Bucking the trend of my previous articles, I want to take a look at this upcoming season’s Junior class. In particular, let’s take a look at the quarterbacks. These signal callers may be unproven, as of yet, but they are just beginning to scratch the surface. So with four quarterbacks currently ranked in our Prep Redzone Indiana Class of 2023 rankings let’s break down the rising talent that the state has to offer.
The highest-ranked Quarterback in the Class of 2023 is North Decatur’s Carson Parmer Carson Parmer 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB South Decatur | 2023 State IN . Parmer plays all three phases for North Decatur. Not only is he a standout quarterback, but he also but he also plays on defense and is the team’s punter. As a quarterback, he averaged over seventeen yards per completion as a Sophomore last year, showing that he has the ability to push the ball down the field. Parmer is a more conventional quarterback and I really do believe that he is just beginning to demonstrate his tremendous talent. In particular, he has great arm talent that I cannot wait to see develop further in 2021. Carson Parmer Carson Parmer 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB South Decatur | 2023 State IN is set for a breakout season at North Decatur.
Castle’s Cameron Tilly Cameron Tilly 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Castle | 2023 State IN comes in at number two on this list. Tilly has tremendous upside. While some of Tilly’s numbers last season may not have been eye-popping, he does display the crucial ability to protect the football. Tilly only threw six interceptions a season ago. He also had seven rushing touchdowns. I really believe that Tilly will take a major step forward in 2021. Tilly shows major potential and he is certainly poised for a big year this season.
Next on the countdown is Nicholas Patterson Nicholas Patterson 6'2" | 225 lbs | QB Mooresville | 2023 State IN from Mooresville High School. Patterson is a two-way player as he also plays defensive back for the Pioneers. As a quarterback though, Patterson threw for over 2,200 yards last campaign and had an incredible touchdown to interception ratio of better than four to one. On top of all that, Patterson added well over 700 rushing yards and had twenty touchdowns on the ground. Patterson shows an amazing blend of explosiveness as well as poise that you do not see very often. Any college coach looking for a student-athlete to build their program around needs to make a trip to Mooresville this fall.
The final quarterback in our rankings for the Class of 2023 is Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Parke Heritage | 2023 State IN from Parke Heritage High School. Johnson is another quarterback who can do it all. He also plays cornerback for the Wolves and he has all the tools to be a dynamic playmaker at the next level. As a Sophomore, Johnson threw 38 touchdown passes. Incredibly, he only threw three interceptions all year. Those are ridiculous numbers that show that Johnson is the sort of prospect that can light up the field but he will also extend drives by picking up first downs and he shows the ability to make good decisions with the football. He also ran for ten touchdowns last year. Johnson consistently demonstrates the ability to fill a variety of needs for any high major college program.
Indiana’s Junior quarterback class may lack experience, but these prospects have off-the-charts raw talent. Their film and numbers speak for themselves. Without question, the 2021 season will serve as a major growth year for them. I believe that all four of these remarkable student-athletes will come on strong and take massive leaps forward this summer and will take things to a new level in the fall. My best advice to coaches of major college programs, get these young men on your radar as soon as possible.
