This list will mostly be running backs that have played a huge part in their teams offensive success. Strong rushing teams have multiple successful ball carriers, but this will focus on the top for each team.
Darius McFarland Darius McFarland RB Falcon | 2022 State CO , Jr. RB
This Junior has put up some crazy numbers to begin this season. Darius has had 71 carries for 775 yards and 11 touchdowns. This means that Darius is carrying the ball at a 10.9 average yards per carry. That is an extremely high number of yards per each carry producing a first down each time Darius gets his hands on the ball. His performance has helped lead Falcon to a 4-1 record this season. Darius is only a Junior and if he keeps these performances up expect his recruiting to take off this summer.
Davon Stevens, Sr. RB
Harrison is off to a 5-0 start and a top 5 ranking thanks a lot to the sweet feet of Stevens. He has rushed the ball 41 times for 294 yards averaging 7.2 yards per carry. The Senior has also accounted for 6 rushing touchdowns which is most on the team. Harrison has three players with over five carries showing they like to spread the ball around. When the ball is in Davon’s hands he seems to make the most of it with a great average per carry.
DeShon Gallegos, Jr. RB
Skyview has had a rough start to the season at 0-5, but there is promise for a strong future behind the legs of their running back DeShon. As a Junior he has the second most carries on the team but has accounted for the most rushing yards. In five games he has carried the ball 46 times for 289 yards and 2 touchdowns. He is running the ball at a 6.3 average yards per carry mark. Besides the team’s slow start to the season there has been some great flashes of what could come in the future because of Gallegos’ rushing abilities.
Erick Covington Erick Covington 6'1" | QB Gateway | 2021 State CO , Sr. QB
Erick enters the list as the first QB to be leading their team in passing and rushing. Gateway has not been able to connect through the air a ton this year so they have relied heavily on the legs of their backfield. Erick has carried the ball tied for a team high 19 times accounting for 349 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. This puts him at a 18.4 average yards per carry. This number is extremely high and shows the big play capability that Erick has if defenses do not respect him.
CaiReis Curby CaiReis Curby ATH Aurora Central | 2023 State CO , So. QB
Cai’Reis is another QB that has lead his team in passing and rushing. Curby is the Sophomore signal caller for the 3-2 Aurora Central Trojans. As a QB he has rushed 46 times for 459 yards and 5 touchdowns. He has had two games where he has rushed for over 100 yards and carries the ball an average of 9.3 yards per carry. The Trojans are off to a strong start but with their top three rushers all coming in at Sophomores expect them to make some noise over the next three years.
