They may not have been names you have heard before, but know that their time is coming! This is only the beginning of their journeys.
Javon Miller – Carencro (Louisiana)
Miller showed his strength and quick moves at the showcase. He really impressed in the one on ones and had some very nice pass rushing moves. Standing at 6’1, weighing 270, Miller looked like a true run stopper but showed very nice feet. He had a very good 40 time and showed his ability to change directions in a hurry in the L-Drill. Eyes will definitely be on him as he continues to develop through his years.
Tommy Thompson – Fort Worth Dunbar (Texas)
Thompson had a very productive day at the showcase. It was a great opportunity for him to get his name out there and it definitely worked in his favor. Thompson has good size and he is a player who you can see will get better the more time he is on the field. He had good reps in the one on ones and a good day of testing. A great player to keep tabs on and watch how he pans out.
Michael Flores – Brennan (Texas)
Flores had a great day at the showcase, especially in the testing portion. He posted exceptional times in the shuttle and L-Drill. Flores’ numbers were among some of the best of the day. Flores shows great reach in his long frame. He stands 6’2 and weighs 235, showing very good size for an end. Potential is high for this athlete and believe that I will be keeping an eye out for him in the upcoming years.
Bryce Lagow – Plano (Texas)
Lagow’s size is what gets your attention immediately. Towering at 6’4 and weighing 300 pounds, Lagow is a force on the line. At the showcase, he displayed his strength, power, and ability to move his feet well at such a size. Lagow’s reach kept the offense’s hands off of him and he make great moves to win his reps. With a full season, Lagow will soon be on people’s radar and I believe he will take advantage of his opportunities just as he did at the showcase.
Peyton Heninger – Prosper (Texas)
Heninger demolished the testing portion of the showcase, putting up some of the best numbers of the day. Heninger at 5’11, 185 is definitely an athlete on the field especially with his speed in quickness. He put up a 4.7 forty time, a 4.5 shuttle time, which was the camps best, and a 7.8 time in the L-Drill. He showed great effort throughout the day and absorbed much information and was attentive the entire time. I expect Heninger to continue working on his craft and use his speed and quickness to his advantage throughout the season, just as he showed in the one on ones.
K’Alyndon Redmond – Lake Dallas (Texas)
Redmond is one player who I believe can have an amazing and very promising future. This was one of his first camps and he did not disappoint. Redmond has a solid size, standing 6’1 and weighing in at 210, but has good arm length and strong lower half. He put up great numbers in the testing portion, posting one of the best forty times at a 4.82, having a top shuttle time of 4.59, capturing the best broad jump, showing his explosion with a 9’6 jump, and having a top L-Drill time of 7.91. Redmond showed resiliency in his one on one reps learning from mistakes, correcting them and coming back to win his next rep. Potential is extremely high for the young athlete and I plan to follow his growth as a player.
Sergio Valdez – Grand Prairie (Texas)
Valdez was another who definitely benefitted from this showcase. We were given the opportunity to see another promising player. Valdez stands at 6’3 and weighs 205 but has a very good long reach to fight blocks. That combined with his speed and quickness made for a good day at the camp. He had great testing numbers, running a 4.84 forty time, a 4.7 shuttle drill, and a 7.84 L-Drill time. Valdez showed that he is very athletic rusher who can be a force. Will follow his season to see how he develops through the season.
Nate Weyand Jr. – Austin Westlake (Texas)
Weyand Jr. put people on notice at the showcase. A player with excellent size at 6’3, 223 pounds, Weyand Jr. showed that he could move in the testing. He ran a forty time of 4.85, and an impressive L-Drill time of 7.46. Weyand Jr. competed very well in the one on ones and showed the combination of strength and speed. He is a player who’s future is very bright and someone who has the potential to be a household name.
