How would you divide up your football program? We scanned the film all across Grand Forks (Central and Red River) and East Grand Forks to give you the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks Super Team if that happened! Enjoy.
Quarterback (2)
Ty Lorenz Ty Lorenz QB Grand Forks Central | 2021 State , Grand Forks Central (2021)
Twitter: @tylorenz3
Lorenz will be my QB1 on this Grand Forks super-team roster. He has a quick release on his ball and has solid poise in the pocket. Lorenz also has substantial precision on his deep throws. Another thing I liked about Ty’s game is his ability to adjust the strength of his throws. Both QBs on this list will be playing college sports next year, but Lorenz will be the only one playing football as he’s headed to the Minot State Beavers this season.
Sam Votava Sam Votava ATH East Grand Forks | 2021 State MN , East Grand Forks (2021)
Twitter: @sam_votava
Votava would be my backup QB on this GF-EGFt roster. He has the good deep ball arm strength and is good at buying time in the pocket. He also can extend plays with his legs. Votava did play football in 2020 but didn’t have any senior film for us to watch. Sam is headed to Concordia-Moorhead to play basketball for the Cobbers.
Running Back/Fullback (3)
Tyler Ulrich Tyler Ulrich 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB GF Red River | 2021 State , Grand Forks Red River (2021)
Ulrich has a decent push in his lower body to earn yards after contact despite not being the most extensive tailback on the field. He also has a good burst when bouncing upfield when he has the open lanes. What I like most about Ulrich as my starting tailback is his rushing ability on the inside lanes, which is not something you see all that much out of a tailback with his measurables.
Carter Vasek, East Grand Forks (2022)
Twitter: @cartervasek
Vasek is my outside runner when I need one on my GF-ECF Super Team. Vasek has a good twitch in his hips when he needs it, and I’m sure it will improve even more with another year of high school football left for the Green Wave. Vasek has good speed to gain yards that look unattainable. Vasek will have a great chance to be my starting tailback when we build this list next offseason!
Garrin Sattler Garrin Sattler TE GFRed River | 2022 State , Grand Forks Red River (2022)
Twitter: @GarrinSattler
Sattler was the obvious choice for the fullback position on our super team, being one of the best fullbacks on our radar in the Dakotas in general. Sattler, in my eyes, has a lot more foot speed than most fullbacks you will see and can break to the outside for a sizeable gain if he gets free. You may see Sattler in another place deeper on this list, as that position leads me to think it will be where he’ll play at the next level.
Wide Receiver/Tight End (3)
Sam Strandell Sam Strandell DB GF Central | 2022 State , Grand Forks Central (2022)
Twitter: @SamStrandell
Strandell looks in my eyes to be the top WR on my G-EGF Super Team. He runs solid stop routes for a larger WR. He uses his long reach to extend past much smaller cornerbacks, which gives him a significant advantage. Strandell, as a deep threat, can run a quick jab step and then burn by the CB defending him too. Strandell has seen a ton of D2 thru NAIA interest this fall.
Paine Parks Paine Parks 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB GF Red River | 2022 State , Grand Forks Red River (2022)
Twitter: @Parks_paine44
I have never seen a WR market themselves as well in my six-state scouting radius as Grand Forks Red River’s Paine Parks Paine Parks 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB GF Red River | 2022 State . This young man fears nobody as a blocking wide receiver for the Roughriders. Parks certainly drives his feet with plenty of gas, as his physical blocking ability will pave the way upfield for my two running backs and one fullback. Also, a standout on the basketball court as well. 3.6 GPA and is hearing from a bulk of the Northern Sun and FCS programs around the Midwest.
Logan Arason Logan Arason 6'3" | 245 lbs | TE GF Red River | 2023 State , Grand Forks Red River (2023)
Twitter: @logan_arason
Arason doesn’t have too much TE film, but I have seen outside of football season that this young man has gotten a lot stronger added 20 pounds in the weight room. Arason was a state qualifier for the Roughriders in the discus this season and has gotten up to 240 pounds from 220. We already mentioned one physical blocker in this receiving core on our super team; I think we will add another one with Arason.
Offensive Line (5)
Zach Farrell Zach Farrell 6'4" | 275 lbs | OL GF Red River | 2021 State , Grand Forks Red River (2021)
Twitter: @ZachFarrell20
If I had to rank the hog mollies on my GF-EGF super team, I feel Farrell would be in the #1 spot after watching his film. Farrell has a swift and super violent punch. He also has a good bend that works powerfully with his driving ability. Farrell looks to be the most college-ready prospect linemen prospect with his quick footwork. Farrell is headed to South Dakota’s Black Hills next season to play football to Black Hills State University, who bring in a solid offensive line in Farrell and Princeton (MN)’s Ben Westling Ben Westling OL Princeton | 2021 State MN , to name a few.
Sam Sather Sam Sather 6'3" | 300 lbs | OL GF Red River | 2021 State , Grand Forks Red River (2021)
Twitter: @Sam_SatherJ
Sather is one of three Roughriders committed to play college football next season. Sather is the finisher type blocker I love watching on film, as he keeps engaging as much as he possibly can. Sather also has a violent punch that is super physical and draws the defender away quickly. Sam is headed to Wolves Country to play at Northern State next year.
Spencer Egeland, East Grand Forks (2022)
Twitter: @EgelandSpencer
Egeland goes in as my wild card to this super team as he does have limited film. What is not limited is the violent punch he has at the center position. Egeland will need to develop a stronger bend at the waist but has potential with another school year under his belt to improve on that skillset. Egeland is a work in progress that needs more film to seal the deal on this team next year. Egeland could be an excellent small school prospect.
Evan Whalen, Grand Forks Central (2022)
Whalen might want to add more film and a social media presence, as I came away impressed with a prospect of my GF-ECF Super Team with limited film. Whalen has a big push off the line that can move some weight. He also shows a good bend on the line. I hope he can generate more attention in his senior season.
Marshal Buelow Marshal Buelow 6'3" | 275 lbs | DL GF Red River | 2021 State , Grand Forks Red River (2021)
Twitter: @marshalbuelow
Buelow doesn’t have many clips on the offensive line as a senior, but what I see from him is a player that will be textbook at the college level the way he makes plays. He attacks defensively at an excellent pad level and could very well be another two-way player to our GF-EGF Super Team. Marshal is head to Dickinson, ND, next season to play at Dickinson State.
Tomorrow: We will take a look at the defense from our super team of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.
