Throughout the years, not only have they built themselves a name of a reputable program, but they have also managed to produce talented prospects as well. These players have managed to contribute to the team’s growing success, which has ultimately led them to the playoffs, and winning seasons. In 2020, the Knights finished the year with a 9-3 record, losing in the second round of the playoffs to Valdosta. As most high school football fans are familiar, Valdosta High School was a powerhouse last year, just as it has always been. As the Knights fell to the Wildcats 44-7, they have begun to look forward to next season, where they will likely be doing whatever they can to put themselves in a place to succeed again. Below, we have listed a few prospects who we think will help them do so.
Joseph Hampton- RB / CB
Even though we are not sold on Hampton’s overall speed, there is no denying his overall impact on his team’s offense. Not only does he have a bit of a burst to his running style, but he runs at a good pad level as well, making it difficult for defenders to bring him down. With this, he runs well downhill, and causes defenders to miss tackles due to his brute strength. The way he keeps his legs churning and moving though contact is a big deal, and is often times the reason for the amount of yards his is able to gain on the ground. Hampton also does a decent job turning the corner as well, and protecting the football when it is in danger. Despite the fact that his feet can be a bit slow, we still think he can be a play maker for his team next year if he works on his overall speed, and agility.
Lleyton Lackey- WR
Not only is Lackey a great small school prospect, but he shows a ton of promise if given a chance to play at the next level. Not only does he have a good burst, and twitch with the ball in his hands, but his short area quickness is very lethal. This allows him to get up the field quickly, and to put defenders in the dirt. With this, he also has a good vision of the field, and a feel for the game. As a result of this, he places himself in good place to make big time catches, regardless of where the ball is thrown. The way he tracks the ball with his eyes, and his body control allows him to make various kinds of catches, regardless of the ball’s placement. Even though we would like to see him clean up his raw footwork, we recognize that he is skilled enough out of his breaks due to his quickness to make things happen regardless. Moving forward, we would like to see Lackey improve with some of his technique, and footwork, as well as the ability to potentially add more size and weight to his growing frame.
Cavin Strawser- WR
While most of Strawser’s time during the 2020 season was spent playing on the JV team, he showed flashes of promise for the varsity level of play as well. While he can play a bit high and stiff at times, he has a good developmental frame, and appears as if he can add weight to his frame. Strawser also shows the versatility to play both sides of the ball, and also displays the fact that he can track the ball well with his eyes. Despite the fact that we think he may be a bit of a raw hands catcher, we think that he can develop in this area due to his comfort playing the WR position. When running routes, he has a decent change of direction, but would also need to improve in his footwork next season. Regardless, we think he is a great developmental player and that he can ultimately play a good role on his team in the future.
Kaleb Jackson Kaleb Jackson 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Evans | 2022 GA – QB
There is a ton to digest when evaluating the film of Kaleb Jackson Kaleb Jackson 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Evans | 2022 GA , but above everything, his talent jumps off of the screen. Not only does he throw well on the move as he rolls out, but he throws well from within the pocket too. He manages to find receivers down field, and also sees the field well. While we would like to see him improve in his overall progressions, we also recognize that he is a young prospect. With this, his release can be a bit inconsistent at times, but he manages to get the ball out cleanly. At times, he may be a little off target, but we like his overall accuracy as he attempts passes. Additionally, Jackson also has a decent touch to his passes, but we would like to see him throw with more velocity at times. His overall arm strength appears to be solid for his age, and we have high expectations for his future development in the future.
