So who has the most to gain in Va?
2022 Ethan Vasko Ethan Vasko 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Oscar Smith | 2022 State VA , QB, Oscar Smith (Chesapeake)
Vasko led Smith to the state title game in 2019 as a sophomore and as I am writing this is gearing up for another state title game with the Tigers. While Vasko has offers from ODU, Fordham, Pitt, Columbia, UConn, Buffalo, Morgan State, and William and Mary, many coaches want to see Vasko in person before offering the talented 2022 QB. Vasko is accurate and has speed that reminds me of Auburn-era Cam Newton. Once coaches see this in person, they will be on Vasko like white on rice.
2023 Cody Shelton Cody Shelton 5'10" | 200 lbs | QB Life Christian Academy | 2023 State VA , QB, Manchester (Midlothian)
Shelton had his team in the playoffs, but they were forced to forfeit due to COVID-19, now he focuses on camps and gaining offers before trying to lead Manchester back to the playoffs this fall. Back in January, Shelton ran a 4.67 40-yard dash at a camp. Shelton will begin his camp season in Baltimore for the Under Armour camp. I saw Shelton at the Eltie 11 combine last season nd came away impressed, even more impressed after he told me he was in the class of 2023. Shelton also boasts a 4.2 GPA
2023 Liberty Christian (Lynchburg) QB Davis Lane Davis Lane 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Liberty Christian Academy | 2022 State VA
Lane, a Va track champion in the 55-meter dash, runs a 4.45 40-yard dash and led Liberty Christian to the state semis in his sophomore year. Being able to stand behind top 2022 recruit Zach Rice Zach Rice 6'6" | 280 lbs | OL Liberty Christian Academy | 2022 State VA in front of him on the line, Lane has looked electric, but will that carry over to camp season where he won’t have Rice? I think so, speed kills and Lane certainly has speed and from the tape, has a live arm. Once coaches get to see him it will be over.
Lane has offers from UMass, Lehigh, Yale, Army, Navy, Penn, Utah State, Dartmouth, Columbia, Harvard, Georgetown, and Old Dominion so far.
2023 Churchland (Portsmouth) QB Brandyn Hillman Brandyn Hillman 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Churchland | 2023 State VA
Hillman made his debut for Churchland in the COVID shortened spring season but I first took note of the 2023 back last fall during a 7v7 league run by now Maryland assistant Zohn Burden and the father of UNC CB Tony Grimes. Hillman has everything you look for in a college QB and I’m sure he will improve on Churchland’s 2021 spring season which saw them make the playoffs but get bounced in the first round. Hillman was also at the Elite 11 combine last fall and looked good. With more camps under his belt this summer, his recruiting could be set to take off.
