In the end, Hazelwood Central’s rushing attack helped the Hawks bounce back from their loss a week earlier to hand the Pattonville Pirates their first defeat, 28-21.
Hazelwood Central improved to 3-1 through four games while Pattonville fell to 3-1.
Here is a quick look at some of the standouts from Thursday’s game…
HAZELWOOD CENTRAL (3-1)
Lionel Banks, RB, 5-5, 184, Class of 2022
Banks has been one of the area’s most consistent performers this spring. He has rushed for at least 82 yards in each game and scored two or more touchdowns in three of the Hawks’ four games.
Against Pattonville he turned in a dominant performance. He rushed 31 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns — all new career highs — and powered the visiting Hawks to a big bounce back win. For the season, Banks has rushed for 450 yards and scored seven touchdowns.

Armani Turner, WR, 5-8, 160, Class of 2022
Turner has been a consistent playmaker this spring despite not getting a lot of touches in the Hawks’ run-heavy offense. Against Pattonville he caught four passes for 59 yards but also had two kickoff returns that totaled 80 yards.
In four games this spring, Turner has 20 receptions for 290 yards and four touchdowns.
Eric Brown Jr., DB, 5-10, 170, Class of 2022
Brown’s numbers have steadily improved this spring and his team-high 11 tackle performance against Pattonville served as a breakout game. Brown’s play helped slow down what has been a strong Pirates passing attack this spring.
Brown now has 24 tackles, including one for loss, in four games.
