Continue ReadingThis was a difficult task for Brooks College Prep this past Friday night, as Marmion had COVID issues and had to cancel their road trip against St. Viator, Brooks stepping up late to fill in the spot. The short preparation time along with going against a very good Lions teams made things very difficult for the Eagles. The outcome showed, St. Viator winning easily 56-14, but that didn’t mean there weren’t some impressive standouts on the field Friday night for both teams. Here are the players that shined the brightest this past Friday.
St. Viator
2021 Defensive lineman #55 Jeremiah Pittman Jeremiah Pittman 6'2" | 265 lbs | DL St. Viator | 2021 State IL (6’2” and 275lbs) @jeremiahpitt55
Hands down the best player on the field for both sides, Pittman was a problem for the Eagles offensive line all night long. Tackles for loss, taking down running backs, pressures, the young man was absolutely dominant on the line. It’s safe to say that the Iowa Hawkeyes are getting a very good prospect, one that has the potential to be the next in line during their recent run of future NFL defensive linemen. Although Pittman lined up as an offensive tackle as well, his future is one defense and it’s very bright.
2022 Linebacker Carson Eggebraten Carson Eggebraten 6'0" | 220 lbs | LB Saint Viator | 2022 State IL (6’ and 220lbs) @CEggebraten
Seeing the linebacker participate in multiple offseason events, I had a feeling Eggebraten would back up the impressive showings, and that’s exactly what happened. He didn’t rack up the tackles, but he didn’t need to do that to make a big impact in their win. This pick-6 put the Lions in a very comfortable lead and they wouldn’t be challenged again.

The linebacker didn’t play too much in the second half, as the game got out of hand at the half. Either way, Eggebraten showed me that he wasn’t just a guy that looked good without pads on, he’s a player that needs to be on a lot more college’s recruiting boards.
2021 Wide receiver / long snapper Joe Laterza Joe Laterza 6'5" | 205 lbs | TE St. Viator | 2021 IL (6’5” and 205lbs) @laterza_joe
Another player I had seen previously, I wasn’t all that impressed with Laterza as a wide receiver. He changed my mind on Friday, with catches like this that made me think he could play there at the next level. The frame is great, he has plenty of room to add on more weight and most likely won’t lose much speed. If he does, Laterza could add on the extra weight and move over to tight end. If he doesn’t do that, long snapping could be in his future, he’s very talented there as well. Unfortunately, it seems like Laterza is close to making a decision on where his next football step is, so the boat might have sailed with your chances of landing the intriguing athlete.
2021 Running back Lucas Barisas (5’8” and 185lbs) @LBarisas
Another very solid player who went unsigned and is looking for a home, Barisas has plenty of ability to be a playmaker at the next level. He is on the smaller side but it doesn’t matter much as the back is more than willing to get the hard yards between the tackles.

Where Barisas really shines is when he gets outside of the tackles, where he’s gots the speed and vision to get there while his ability to cut upfield is shown. Right now he’s weighing his options to play at the next level, with a PWO from Tulane at the top of his list, if you’re in need of a very solid running back, Barisas can help.
2021 Wide receiver PJ Scales (5’11” and 180lbs) @PJScales2
Another smaller player who plays bigger than their size, Scales like Barisas excels when he gets to the perimeter. He has the speed to get past defenders, as the Lions used multiple ways to get Scales the ball.

He was a factor in the passing game as well, again his speed showing up, as he can get behind a defense. Scales did miss a long scoring opportunity when he had a ball go though his hands, but mistakes happen and there was certainly more good than bad.
Others to watch:
2022 WR Dominic McKevitt (6’1” and 175lbs) @DominicMckevitt
2022 Linebacker Will Fitzpatrick (6’2” and 190lbs) @TheWillFitz
2022 Cornerback / kicker Alex Konopka (5’10” and 170lbs) @AlexKonopka3
Brooks College Prep
2022 Wide receiver Cam Pickett (6’ and 180lbs) @CamPickett4
The best player on the other side of the field, Pickett played both ways for his undermanned Eagles team. Although he is a solid defender, being an offensive force is where he will be making an impact at the next level. Not the tallest WR, but Pickett has great awareness and timing, able to make the catch when the balls at its highest point. He’s able to make plays with the ball after he gets in it his hands as well, he can break short passes for big gainers.

I knew Pickett would be a standout going into the game after seeing him during the summer,, his playmaking skills again separating him from the field. Explosive with good hands, Pickett’s recruitment is just starting to heat up as he got his first offer from Penn last week. More will be on the way if he continues to produce like he did this past Friday.
2022 Athlete Chidiebere Anaele (6’1” and 180lbs) @chidiebereanae5
First time seeing Anaele and I really liked what I saw on both sides of the ball. A wide receiver that isn’t afraid to go over the middle and make the difficult catch, knowing that he’s going to take a hit.. He also showed that he’s a very capable defender, as Anaele made more than a few plays behind the LOS. If he can add on some extra weight, there’s a lot to like about Anaele’s future, which in my estimation will be as an outside linebacker or safety. His coverage skills were good, his anticipation better. Anaele has become a player that is squarely on my radar in the ‘22 class and he should be on yours as well.
2023 Offensive lineman Thomas Bodie (6’1” and 270lbs) @thomas_bodie
A massive frame for such a young lineman, Bodie started on the interior offensive line and was very effective. He’s very raw however, but the base for a very solid lineman is there. Bodie is still growing, his father is three inches taller than him, and having just turned 16, there is plenty of room for him to continue to grow. A good initial punch is what initially grabbed my attention, and he moves well for his current size. Bodie does need to work on his footwork and technique, but there’s potential in the lineman, lots of it.
2022 Running back Jamareon Dale (5’9” and 180lbs) @dalejamareon6
Smaller but put together, Dale has good vision and a powerful lower half. What he did well wasn’t when he was getting opportunities to run the ball, it was in pass blocking. Even though Dale is on the smaller side for a back, he isn’t afraid to get dirty picking up blitzers or chipping lineman to give his quarterback more time. Due to the score, Dale didn’t get many opportunities to run with the ball, but there were a few passes that went his way, solid hands and good balance in that area. I need to see more of Dale, but there some very solid areas of his game.
