Continue ReadingThe second live game of the weekend that I attended was the Raiders of Glenbard South traveling to Serpico Field to take on the Fenton Bison. It was a wet game and it clearly effected the passing game for both sides. The Raider ended up with a comfortable 42-15 road victory over the Bison. Here is my analysis of who stood out on Saturday afternoon.
Glenbard South Raiders
2021 Linebacker Jeremy Gelino Jeremy Gelino 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB Glenbard South | 2021 IL (6’ and 210lbs) @GelinoJeremy
My first time seeing the Eastern Illinois commit and the impact that Gelino had on the game was impressive. He did a bit of overthink from making plays behind the LOS like this big sack on fourth down and taking back this interception for a score.

That wasn’t his only time finding paydirt, Gelino caught a pass and ended up doing a John Elway spin into the endzone. Great later speed and obviously good hands, EIU is getting a very versatile defender.
2022 Defensive end Connor Murphy Connor Murphy 6'3" | 230 lbs | DL Glenbard South | 2022 State IL (6’3” and 235lbs) @ConnorM42407009
After seeing Murphy dominate the competition during the camp season, it was no surprise that the talented lineman did the same on Saturday. Consistently in the backfield, Murphy ended up with two sacks, one of them right here. The coaching staff needs to get some credit here too, they made it difficult for Fenton to identify where Murphy was, as he lined up on both sides and even slid down as a tackle on certain plays. When he couldn’t get to the quarterback, Murphy was able to get his arms up to create difficult passing lanes. He also played some offensive tackle, showing his strength and athleticism. There has been some action from a few D1 schools, but Murphy needs to get more, he’s extremely talented.
2022 Running back Trevor Burnett Trevor Burnett 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Glenbard South | 2022 State IL (5’10” and 180lbs) @TrevorBurnett8
Early in the game, Burnett got taken down awkwardly and it looked like his day could be over. That wasn’t the case as he showed toughness along with an impressive skill set. A very good frame with very good speed. Burnett does a good job of finding the endzone, as he did it twice on Saturday.

He is a threat in the passing game as well, showing soft hands and the ability to make defenders miss when he catches the ball. Very good showing from the junior RB, I’m excited to see how Burnett develops into his senior season.
2022 Athlete Sam Scullion (6’ and 185lbs) @SamScullion4
The “defensive end” was part of my midseason tape reviews, but I had yet to see him with pads on. After getting a chance to do so, my view of what Scullion can be at the next level has changed. Seeing him workout as an DE made me think of a blitzing safety, one that could live in the box and although he could very well end up there, Scullion could be a OLB if he adds on good weight, which his frame will allow him to do. On Saturday, he did a bit of everything, from rushing the passer, to dropping back into coverage, keeping his gap filled in the run game and getting to the quarterback. He even lined up as a tight end later in the game. The refs missed a call as Scullion caused a fumble on a sack, but they ended up calling it an incomplete pass, it wasn’t. I love the versatility with Scullion, get him on your team, see how he reacts to the weight room, then give him a position. Right now, he’s an impressive athlete who could end up at multiple positions.
Names to know:
Glenbard South
2024 Quarterback Michael Champagne (5’7” and 145lbs) @MichaelChampsQB
Was the second team quarterback and got reps early in the 3rd quarter and could be a three-year starter.
2022 Fabyan Pagan (6’5” and 305lbs)
A massive frame who moves well, I need to see more but he’s a guy that needs to be on teams radars.
Fenton Bison
2021 Jumbo athlete Gerrell Wilson (6’3” and 240lbs)
An unsigned prospect that needs a home, Wilson has a very good frame, he was one of the biggest players on the field Saturday. For his size, he moved extremely well, I have been going back and forth on where he could end up at the next level. Wilson is very raw, has the frame to add on more weight and not lose his athletic ability. He could end up on either side of the line, but I have been leaning towards him as an interior offensive lineman. Teams need to reach out to him soon, Wilson is unsure about what he will do in his football future, he could potentially hand it up after the season is over. He’s talented enough for teams to take a flier on him.
2021 Wide receiver Sherby Brown (5’10” and 170lbs) @SherbyBrown
Also a very good basketball player, Brown showed that he could potentially have a future on the gridiron as well. What impressed me the most was that he did a bit of everything on offense. Brown caught passes and took handoffs in a variety of ways to get the ball in his hands.

The shiftiness and speed stood out, good hands and playmaking ability as well. He an ideal candidate for a slot receiver, but would need to add on a bit of weight to really take some punishment on handoffs. Brown went unsigned as well, so there’s still time to get this young man on your campus.
2021 Linebacker Gavin Davis (6’ and 210lbs)
The undoubted leader of the Bison defense, Davis made his impact felt all game. He grabbed a pick at the end of the first half to end a Raider drive, but prior to that the run support was very impressive.

He is a bit on the shorter side for a MLB, but that really doesn’t matter, Davis is a playmaker. A good tackler who knows how to wrap well, I really liked the complete game he showed. The speed is solid, Davis gets from sideline to sideline with ease. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to catchup with Davis after the game, but he opened my eyes with his impressive day.
