Having been around football for a number of years, the opportunity to take over a program that has never really pegged the meter when it comes to football is a challenge, but at the same time, it is an opportunity to completely rebuild a program that is coming of an 0-10 season.
What Wolfe, a longtime Clay County coach, did as soon as taking over was fill out his coaching staff with the same kind of people that share the passion, teaching and coaching that he does.
The opportunity to bring his many philosophies with him enables this knowledgeable coach to start from scratch, and that is exactly what he has done this winter/spring.
Getting ready for spring and ultimately the Spring Game at home against Keystone Heights on May 21 at 7 p.m., it will be all about conditioning and getting stronger. Improvement will come as the student/athletes get stronger and learn more and more about what it takes to play winning football.
What Wolfe and his staff will focus on is getting the rising senior class ready to lead and make a difference.
While many of the returning players are not used to winning, it will be up to them to help change the culture.
Among the Class of 2022 prospects for the Broncos are Jared Burt (WR/DB, 6-1, 175), Blake Butler (DL, 6-0, 190 – 2.8 GPA), Jace Campbell (DB, 5-11, 175), Austin Dillon (RB/FB, 5-8, 180 – 3.3 GPA), Tyrone Floyd Jr. (DL, 6-0, 215), Michael Jean Francois (RB, 5-9, 190 – 3.4 GPA, 1260 SAT), Caleb Freytag (WR, 6-1, 175) and offensive lineman Justin Hodge (6-2, 260 – 3.6 GPA).
The Broncos will also feature Waylon Johns (DB, 5-11, 175 – 3.23 GPA), Ryan Johnson (OL, 6-1, 240 – 3.1 GPA, 1020 SAT), Logan Padgett (Athlete, 6-0, 190 – 2.7 GPA), Luke Petitta Luke Petitta 6'5" | 240 lbs | TE Riverview | 2023 FL ” last=””]” last=””]” last=””] Padgett (QB, 6-0, 190 – 3.2 GPA), Tanner Peery Tanner Peery 6'2" | 265 lbs | OL Middleburg | 2022 FL (OL, 6-2, 265 – 4.0 GPA) and defensive lineman Donovan Wimberly (6-1, 230 – 3.6 GPA).
PLENTY OF UNDERCLASSMEN TO CHOOSE FROM
If this program is to build, depth will be an issue – and competition will start the process.
The Class of 2023 will have prospects who have a chance to be special – and with the off-season work and the direction the Coach Wolfe and his staff point this program in, things can start turning around.
In that 2023 class you have Jacob Baxley (LB, 5-11, 210 – 3.7 GPA), Chase Black (LB, 6-1, 190 – 2.96 GPA), Dakota Gober (OL, 5-10, 230 – 3.7 GPA), Jayden Levy (LB, 6-5, 185), Khoda Moses (OL, 6-0, 230 – 3.7 GPA), Landen Padgett (OC, 5-10, 250 – 2.7 GPA), Kalani Robles (OL, 6-1, 295 – 3.0 GPA), Robert Steele Robert Steele 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB Middleburg | 2023 FL (OLB, 6-0, 205 – 2.94 GPA) and defensive end Demarion Suggs (5-10, 220).
With athletes like Wyatt Underwood (Athlete, 6-0, 205 – 3.96 GPA), Jordan Wells (WR, 6-0, 180 – 2.5 GPA) and Paul Wydzierzecki (DB, 6-1, 175 – 3.0 GPA, 910 SAT), the depth issue may not be a problem come the summer.
If this Class of 2024 continues to work and put in the time, they will be part of something very impressive.
Future standouts such as Tucker Cody (DL, 6-1, 190 – 3.0 GPA), Cam Garcia (QB/TE, 5-11, 175 – 2.65 GPA), Jason Goflin (DL, 6-2, 210 – 3.0 GPA), Luke Petitta Luke Petitta 6'5" | 240 lbs | TE Riverview | 2023 FL ” last=””]” last=””] Greene (OL/DL, 5-11, 245), Aiden Postemski (QB, 5-10, 175 – 3.33 GPA) and Bradley Rossman (OL/DL, 6-1, 230 – 3.33 GPA) are very talented, but lack the experience and that year round commitment that is being instilled daily by Coach Wolfe and his staff.
