Young quarterbacks with extremely high ceilings are not always easy to find. Luckily for these programs, the five young quarterbacks mentioned in this list are players who continue to raise their stock value year round. Each player works hard with the determination of reaching their goals while making sure the world knows that they are the quarterbacks of the future.
Brayden Dorman Brayden Dorman 6'5" | 200 lbs | QB Vista Ridge | 2023 State CO | Vista Ridge | 6’5”, 190lbs | QB
Not only is Dorman one of the top passers in the state, he is one of the top pro-style passers in the country. He finished his shortened sophomore season with 144 completions on 221 attempts for 1,829 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Dorman received his first offer from Iowa State before the season, and has since added a few more Power 5 offers. These D-I offers include the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, Oregon State, and the University of Kansas.
During the offseason, Dorman has been leaving a lasting impression at national 7-on-7 club competitions with Team Full Gorilla, continuously raising his stock.
Cole LaCrue Cole LaCrue 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Broomfield | 2023 State CO | Broomfield | 6’2”, 190lbs | QB
LaCrue is a dual-threat gunslinger with a cannon for an arm and true playmaking abilities. He possesses speed that makes him hard to catch as he extends plays with his legs, and the size and strength that make him difficult to bring down.
Over the course of his six game sophomore season as the starter, LaCrue recorded 74 completions on 110 attempts of 1,017 yards and 10 touchdowns. As a runner, he tallied 167 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns off of 56 carries.
There is no doubt that LaCrue belongs in the conversation when talking about the state’s top passers, regardless of graduating year.
Marte Russell Marte Russell 6'0" | 185 lbs | LB Cherry Creek | 2023 State CO | Cherry Creek | 6’0”, 170lbs | QB
Russell is poised to be the shot-caller for the reigning two-time 5A state champions this coming fall. This dual-threat quarterback completed seven of his 13 passing attempts for 84 yards, and ran for 51 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries as a backup during his sophomore season.
Being QB1 of the Bruins comes with high expectations, a challenge that Russell has been eagerly preparing for. He has spent a lot of time working with some of the top training programs in the state, such as Colorado Wild Sports and Performance Empire.
Joseph Capra | Denver South | 6’1”, 165lbs | QB/FS
So far, Capra has had an impressive sophomore season as the relief thrower for the Ravens. Over the course of four games in this spring season, he has 18 completions on 24 attempts for 236 yards and four touchdowns. He also has 22 carries for 111 yards and two touchdowns, and two receptions for a total of 89 yards. Defensively, Capra has 13 total tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one interception.
The Ravens have completed the spring’s regular season undefeated and will be entering the postseason as the number-one seed, an accomplishment in which Capra played a major role.
Jimmy Thomas Jimmy Thomas 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Palmer Ridge | 2023 State CO | Palmer Ridge | 6’2”, 175lbs | QB
Thomas is a mobile quarterback with quick feet and a sharp release. He scans the field well and has great ball placement, making him a great option for spread and air-raid schemes.
Thomas’ only completed pass out of four attempts on varsity was a 97 yard touchdown connection. Sitting behind one of the top passing quarterbacks in the state meant his playing time during his sophomore season was limited, but his future is extremely bright.
