In the grand scheme of things, this was not as bad as most fans could have predicted, especially due to the fact that the Falcons managed to make it to the playoffs. This playoff run did finish up short, as the Falcons fell to North Cobb 30-6. This season, fueled by their playoff loss, the team will most likely be looking to have more consistent success. In order to do so, they will need all of their players to buy in. This includes the young players who will be stepping up to the plate for the first time, and even some of the team’s returning players. Below, we have listed a few returners who we think can make a big impact on the team next year. Feel free to check them out if you have some extra time!
Damion Thompson- WR
During the 2020 season, Thompson proved to be a consistent, and positive force for the Falcons. Not only did he prove to be a solid route runner due to his ability to separate, and stack defenders, but he also showed that he has a decent frame, and length that allows him to play the WR position in dominant fashion. Perhaps on of the biggest strengths to Thompson’s game is his ability to make plays after the catch. His burst, straight line speed, and explosive ability makes him a big time play maker for his team. With this, Thompson’s footwork, and ability to get out of his breaks also helps him to be able to set himself up for success when running routes. Next season, we would like to see Thompson build on to his overall ability as a route runner, as well as add some weight to his frame to assist him when in physical situations.
John Floyd Jr- LB
John Floyd Jr. is perhaps one of the most underrated players on Pebblebrook’s entire football team. Not only does he have decent short area quickness, but he plays very instinctively, and with decent footwork. Floyd plays with good awareness and vision, and is unafraid of coming downhill to make tackles. When doing so, he takes good angles, uses great leverage, and rolls his hips well, which allows him to finish tackles to the ground. Along with this, he also does a decent job of eliminating wasted movement, but he can certainly be raw at times. Moving forward, we would like to see him work on his overall speed, and his ability to play the pass. While he can be a rock star when stopping the run, he seems a bit lost when playing the pass sometimes. If he is able to improve in this area, you could be looking at one of the most promising small school prospect LB’s in Georgia.
Tyler Swann- DL
Swann, who was one of the leading defensive linemen in the state who made TFL’s during the 2020 season, showed that he can use his size, width, and strength to his ability. Not only did he not have an issue with firing off of the football effectively, but he showed that he could sift through offensive linemen, and get to the ball carrier. With this, Swann also rolls his hips well, and uses his hands effectively. While his overall speed can be a question mark at times, he also does a decent job in pursuit, and shows that he has a good motor. Next season, we would like to see him use more polished footwork, and technique. This could elevate his game a great amount, and could even be a difference maker in potential offers in the future.
