Artesia WR Braxton McDonald Braxton McDonald 5'10" | WR Artesia | 2021 State NM told Prep Redzone New Mexico Sunday night that he has accepted a preferred walk-on (PWO) offer from New Mexico State, opting to stay close to home rather than play elsewhere.
“After a lot of thought and consideration, I will be taking the PWO offer from NMSU,” McDonald said. “I’m excited and ready to be an Aggie.”
The Aggies, which open the 2021 season Aug. 28 at home against rival UTEP, extended the PWO offer to McDonald in late December. He held offers from Eastern New Mexico and Wayland Baptist University.
McDonald caught 38 passes for 475 yards and seven touchdowns during Artesia five-game spring season. As a junior in 2019, he caught 78 passes for 1,435 yards and 22 touchdowns.
In his final 17 games for Artesia, McDonald totaled 116 receptions for 1,910 yards and 29 touchdowns.
McDonald reports to Las Cruces on June 27 for the beginning of summer workouts.
“I’m and excited and grateful for the opportunity to be an Aggie,” McDonald said. “We are all excited for the future of NMSU football!”
NM State has five home games in 2021: UTEP, South Carolina State, Hawaii, Utah State and UMass. The 7-game road schedule include trips to San Diego State, Hawaii, Alabama and Kentucky.
