Continue ReadingRome High School, which has been known for it’s talented football team, and competitive seasons, will certainly be poised to make a return to the playoffs in the 2021 season. While the 2020 season may not have went the way that they had probably hoped it would, plenty of young, and talented prospects will be returning next season and will likely step up to the plate, and record another winning season for the Wolves. Last season, the Wolves finished with a final record of 8-4, and saw their season come to an end in the second round of the playoffs against River Ridge, as they fell short 42-10. In 2021, expect for some of the young talent on the team to avenge this loss, and to further develop, and cultivate itself into something that is special to watch. Below, we have listed a few of the players who we feel will make a huge impact on the team next year.
Bryson Hill- RB
While Hill plays both sides of the ball, he tends to have most of his success on offense, as a RB. When running the football, Hill does a good job of running with strong legs, and can even be seen to run through contact as well. While he keeps his legs churning, he also does a good job of catching the ball, turning, and making his way up field. The burst that he has when doing so is often times the factor that helps him to gain plenty of positive yardage, even despite being a bit undersized. With this, Hill also does a good job of catching the ball out of the backfield, which is huge for his team. This, paired with his decent change of direction helps him to be a play maker for his offense, and he will likely be an instrumental part of his team next season as well.
Reece Fountain- QB
Even though Fountain is a 2024 prospect, plenty of people are already expecting him to be a key player for the Rome offense in the coming years. Not only does he do a good job of maintaining good poise in the pocket, but he also steps up well, and can throw the ball downfield when under pressure. Fountain’s size, length, and frame are also very good for his age, and can help him when he encounters any kind of contact, including when he moves outside of the pocket with his fluid, athleticism. While he has a bit of a slower, and unpolished release at times, he does a good job of squaring his shoulders. Fountain also has a decently strong arm, and the touch that he has on certain throws allows him to make solid passes on multiple levels of the field, but especially downfield. Moving forward, we want to see him improve on his release time, and accuracy on intermediate balls. If he can work on this, he will take his game to the next level. Regardless, we expect him to have a solid 2021 season.
Martavious Collins- TE/WR
Collins, who had 25 receptions last season, is a big prospect, as he measures in at 6’4. While we are not sold on his speed, we do like how slippery he can be in the zones of the field, and how he can make clean catches and get up the field to gain yards after the catch. His big body allows him to bully defenders and box people out as needed, and his strong hands also help him to come down with hard catches. While he is a decent route runner, we would like to see him move with quicker feet. Collins also does a good job of tracking the ball with his eyes, and can be seen to make various kinds of catches. If he can continue to develop into his frame, and can gain speed and burst, we could very well be looking at a special TE prospect.
DeKaylon Daniel- WR
While Daniel is a young prospect as well, he has a few developmental traits that can make him a great WR for his team in the future. Not only does he play with good balance, but he also shows good short area quickness. This allows him to get some good yards after the catch, as he turns and gets up the field. Along with this, he also has decent feet, and the ability to change of direction well. While we would love to see his top speed to confirm how fast he really is, we do feel that his burst and explosive ability will only continue to develop, and will be the factor that sets him apart from his teammates as he continues to develop in his ability, and frame in these coming years.
