The state of Arkansas is rich with talented football athletes. I have had the benefit of witnessing high school football in Arkansas as a coach the past three years. My first running back is one I have had the privilege of watching for three years, one being his freshman year. This young man’s name is Tyler Williams, RB, Central Arkansas Christian. When I started watching Tyler on film the first thing that jumps out for me is his size. Tyler stands at 6’0” 190 pounds. Do not let his size fool you, he has plenty of speed to go with his size. The biggest difference in Tyler’s running ability from his sophomore year to junior year was his running style. His sophomore year Tyler relied heavy on his speed but in the offseason CAC’s Head Coach Tommy Shoemaker praised Tyler’s hard work and determination to not let anything including a pandemic stop him from making his mark as a top RB in the state of Arkansas. An make his mark he did, in a week 1 matchup Tyler rushed for 182 yards on just 17 carries scoring four touchdowns. Tyler put the entire 4A-2 conference on notice in CAC’s non-conference finale Tyler rushed for 247 yards on just 24 carries, averaging 10.3 yards per carry, and scored 4 touchdowns.
The numbers that stood out the most were 3, 531, and 9. In just three games Tyler had rushed for 531 yards and 9 touchdowns. Tyler became a running back who instead of trying to hit the outside, he ran downhill, over people, and through people. Tyler is a good receiver coming out of the backfield in the screen game or check down. Tyler had 319 receiving yards on just 26 catches scoring three touchdowns. One thing most people may not know about Tyler is he has a good arm and was CAC’s back up quarterback. A person may not know about Tyler’s abilities as a QB if you only look at his stats because he was not used much as a QB during the 2020 season. Make no mistake though, Coach Shoemaker has been working on Tyler’s QB abilities starting his sophomore year. What I admire most about Tyler is through his success he has stayed humble, always giving credit to his team, especially his offensive line. Tyler has great eyes and he can spot a hole as small as a rabbit. When there is no hole, Tyler has been known to make his own. Tyler is very improvising when necessary making something out of nothing. Tyler is tough playing with guts and respect for his teammates at all times. In a round one loss vs Crossett, Tyler rushed for 132 yards on 24 carries and 3 touchdowns. Tyler has the size, speed, and heart of a college level RB with the sky being the limit. Tyler finished his junior year starting all 11 games racking up 1,379 yards rushing on 250 carries scoring 24 rushing touchdowns. In all, Tyler had 1,829 all purpose yards rushing, receiving, and passing scoring 28 touchdowns. Tyler Williams has certainly earned the right to be in the conversation of top Arkansas 2022 running back prospects and college recruiters should plan to come and see Tyler this season on Mustang Mountain.
