These guys stepped up on the defensive side of the ball and did their thing. Take a look at the top 5 sack leaders in Washington according to the public stats:
Jordan Mua, DE, 6’0″ 205lbs, Foster HS ’23
Mua stepped up big for Foster this season, as he racked up 8 sacks and 7 hurries in just 4 games played for Foster. He’s on the smaller side for a DE, yet still did his best work as a down DE despite his size. He displayed active, athletic hands to finesse his way around opponents. He flashed the ability to get skinny and shoot through gaps well, as he is slippery in tight spaces with his short area quickness. He sheds and disengages from blocks well and was a menace as a DE. He has a decent initial get off with room to mature, and he will be an exciting prospect to follow in the future.
Sermon Wilson Sermon Wilson 6'3" | 230 lbs | DL Puyallup | 2021 State WA , DE, 6’3″ 235lbs, Puyallup HS ’21
Wilson was a beast as he totaled up 7 sacks in 5 games played for Puyallup. He sizes up with a good frame and length and did his best work on the edges and posed as a threat as a down DE or from a stand up. He showed nice bend and flexibility to get underneath and around OT’s and flashed his violent hands at times as well. Wilson has solid functional strength and is strong at the point of contact. He has nice lateral mobility to make quick plays laterally and was a big time player on the defensive side of the ball for Puyallup.
Ryan Noa, DE, 5’10” 220lbs, Foster HS ’21
Noa is yet another standout on the Foster defense, as he racked up 6 sacks and 3 hurries in 4 games played. The Mua-Noa pass rush tandem was nice for Foster to say the least. He sizes up with a thick frame and was a two-way starter on the OL and DL for Foster. He played both as a down DE and from a stand up position, and flashed a nice swim move around the edges. Noa tackles with a low point of contact and takes a fairly good track to the ball carrier/QB overall.
Keanu Mailoto, DE, 6’3″ 255lbs, Auburn Mountain View HS ’21
Mailoto accumulated 5.5 sacks in 5 games played for Mountain View and was a fearmonger on the defensive side of the ball. He sizes up with a tremendous frame and length and holds excellent position versatility along the DL. He displays a solid ball get off and is pretty quick for his size. He possesses excellent functional strength and flashes a nice bull rush where he completely overpowers interior offensive linemen. He is currently committed to the Arizona juco program Gila River Hawks, and will be very fun to follow as he develops at the next level.
Hunter Wallis, LB, 6’0″ 200lbs, Klahowya Secondary School ’21
Wallis was able to accumulate 5.5 sacks in 5 games played as a MLB for Klahowya. He does a great job with his blitz timing, as he’s able to shoot through gaps at the snap, making it difficult for OL to even chip him with his quickness. He’s a fundamental tackler as well, as on his film he is literally lifting kids in the air and slamming them down. Wallis is a well rounded football player and a standout on both sides of the ball.
