We broke down the film, took a look at the stat lines, and projected who are the top three specialists in the Sioux Falls Area are in order from three thru one!
3: Andrew Nelson, Sioux Falls O’Gorman (2022)
Twitter: @andrewnelson28
2020 Stats: 23/23 on extra points and 3/7 on field goals
Eval: Nelson comes into the #3 spot for our Sioux Falls specialist rankings. Nelson got the most attempts of these three specialists with seven attempts last year but came under the 50% mark on field goals. When I rolled Nelson’s film, I found a kicker with a solid kickoff leg that averages about 60 yards per kickoff. He gets solid hangtime on the football around 3.6, but with the number of misses he had in 2020, he comes in at #3 on our specialist rankings for the Sioux Falls Area. Nelson has been getting Division II interest with another camp invite coming in from a Big Ten school that is no stranger to South Dakota specialists. Also holds a 3.8 GPA!
2: Bryce Soli, Harrisburg (2022)
Twitter: @SoliBryce
2020 Stats: 45/48 on extra points, 2/3 on field goals (long of 33 yards)
Eval: Soli has one of the best hangtimes on this list of specialists, especially on his extra points, as the ball just flies so high in the air super quickly. As far as his film, I thought Soli had the most attractive film when it comes down to these three prospects on this list if I had a college coach’s eyes. Soli’s field goal long was 33 yards last season, but his leg is long enough to load up a kick from 45-50 yards based on how much carry he has on his kicks. The 2 and 1 spots are such a close call and could flip flop after the 2021 season. I know one thing, Soli will be on our next 2022 rankings as we add more specialists next time around! Soli has tons of Division II interest at this time.
1: Zach Brummels, Brandon Valley (2022)
Twitter: @zachbrummels
2020 Stats: 42/45 on extra points, 2/3 on field goals, 20 touchbacks
Eval: Brummels possibly has the smoothest kickoff leg I have seen in the Midwest. Like a quarterback where the ball just flies out of his hand with pure skill, Brummels makes touchbacks look like a walk in the park, which is how the Lynx defense could build such significant momentum in their 2020 season as state champions. Brummels does a solid job on both hashes when he gets his FG attempts getting equal distance from both sides with substantial hang time. Like Soli, Brummels has mostly seen Division II interest thus far but most recently earned a camp invite from an SEC program which could significantly raise Brummel’s stock into that Divison I level. The good folks over at National Kicking Rankings have Brummels as a 4.5-star prospect which projects as a probable FBS/FCS prospect at the college level. Brummels will check in as the #1 Class of 2022 specialist prospect in our next Prep Redzone Dakotas rankings.
