However, there are some big time gems in smaller school across the state who continue to prove themselves and ball out. Take a look at 5 small school QB’s in the 2023 class:
Richard Stallworth Richard Stallworth 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Yuma Catholic | 2023 State AZ , 6’2″ 210lbs, Yuma Catholic HS
Stallworth sizes up with a strong build and frame and impressed everyone in the state as he led Yuma Catholic to a state championship appearance. He threw for 3,803 yards and 49 TD’s, while adding another 5 TD’s on the ground. He has excellent poise and mechanics in the pocket, and loves to throw the deep ball, as it has been highly effective. He’s shown excellent touch and placement and goes through progression very well, especially for a 2023 kid. He has a solid frame at 6’2″ 210lbs and will only continue to get better. He is an impressive pro-style QB, and projects to be an FCS-FBS level prospect as he continues to develop and light up the stat sheet.
Adam Damante Adam Damante 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB American Leadership Academy (Gilbert North) | 2023 State AZ , 5’11″ 165lbs, ALA-Gilbert North
Damante filled in for an injured Jack Ricedorff Jack Ricedorff 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB American Leadership Academy (Gilbert) | 2021 State AZ , and stepped up big by throwing for 621 yards and 4 TD’s, while adding another 197 yards rushing and 3 TD’s on the ground. He is a very good all around athlete as he played DB and returned kicks and punts. He’s a dual-threat QB with big play ability as he’s shown solid speed and change of direction to make opponents miss. He runs the read option well, and can pick up yards when he decides to abandon the pass. As a passer, he’s shown excellent touch on deep balls and can air it out when he wants to. He had an impressive game in the semifinals against Snowflake where he got the ball out quick, hit receivers in tight windows, connected on deep balls, and really took on and excelled in a big role.
Chace Logan, 6’0″ 165lbs, Tonopah Valley HS
Logan threw for 609 yards and 6 TD’s in 7 games played, with only 2 INT’s for the 2A Tonopah Valley High. He has flashed the ability to use touch on certain throws and hit his receivers in stride when doing so. Logan has a nice and quick release and did a good job getting the ball out quick on shallow routes and concepts. He’s flashed the ability to extend plays and make plays on his feet if nothing is there, as he does a good job with ball security. He still has much room to mature and develop, and looks to be a player to pay attention to in the upcoming years in 2A.
Gianni Masculino, 6’0″ 160lbs, Eastmark HS
For an inaugural football season at Eastmark, Masculino led the way as he threw for 1,071 yards and 9 TD’s in an 8 game span. He’s a solid all-around athlete and despite the tough season, he showed his grit and toughness and showed flashes of developing into a QB to notice next season. He throws well on the run in both directions out of play action, and could be a sneaky QB to light it up next fall. Expect the game to slow down a bit for Masculino as he matures with experience.
Connor Aldridge Connor Aldridge 6'2" | 170 lbs | QB Trivium Prep | 2023 AZ , 6’2″ 170lbs, Trivium Prep
Aldridge threw for 1,357 yards and 15 TD’s in a 6 game season for trivium Prep, establishing himself as a big time gunslinger in 2A football. Although, he will have to improve his decision making, as he threw 11 INT’s this past season. Aldridge has solid arm strength with much more room to develop. If he can limit those mistakes and take care of the football, then he has the potential to be a breakout QB this upcoming fall.
