Fortunately, it is a long year and we will have plenty of opportunities to give everybody some of the spotlight! This week’s group has some ballers all over the field. Let’s dive into some of this week’s best submissions via Twitter!
Trey Naugher | 2023 ATH | Heritage Academy
As a sophomore, Trey Naugher played both ways as a linebacker and a wide receiver. As a receiver, he had 753 yards and 13 touchdowns. This is a guy who could really project either way in the future. With his tall and long frame, Naugher has great athleticism in the open field. He runs well and is constantly used to take the top off the defense. Naugher has good hands and can catch anything thrown near him. He also has great control of his body and runs fluid routes. On defense, he reads his keys quickly and can make big time tackles in the open field. Absolute ball player. Really excited to watch his last two seasons at Heritage Academy.
George Ballou George Ballou 6'1" | 255 lbs | OL Lamar School | 2024 State MS | 2024 OL | Lamar
The youngest submission this week, George Ballou George Ballou 6'1" | 255 lbs | OL Lamar School | 2024 State MS started every game last season at Lamar as a freshman. While most freshmen go through some growing pains coming into the high school game, Ballou looks like a senior starter. In his stance, Ballou doesn’t look to have a ton of lower body stiffness and bends well. Off the ball, he fires off and quickly gets hands on his assignment. When he gets hands on his target, Ballou stays engaged and can punish defenders with his raw power. He plays the game with a bunch of tenacity and finished plays through the whistle. In pass pro, Ballou has good feet and initial punch for a freshman. A ton of potential here. Will be a college prospect in the next season or two.
Jaylon Price | 2023 DL/LB | Ruleville Central
Most the time, guys like Jaylon Price are already known about pretty early. For whatever reason, Price is a big time sleeper in the class of 2023. He stands at 6’3″ 195 and has the frame to play outside linebacker or continue growing into a big time defensive end. He’s been starting since his freshman year and has loads of untapped potential. Price has a great get off and can bend well of the edge. At a young age, he has advanced hand usage skills and can create separation with ease. Price runs well in space too and has really impressive strength to him. All in all, this is a guy that will sign with a Division 1 school when it is all said and done. Keep an eye on this guy to have a big time junior season and take the recruiting scene by storm.
Ty Steele | 2022 WR | Kemper County
Another explosive playmaker on the Kemper County offense, Ty Steele does most of his work in the slot. Steele has good speed and acceleration in the open field. He is a fluid route runner with good control over his body. As a downfield threat, Steele tracks the ball exceptionally well. He is capable of taking the top off a defense and making big time explosive plays. When he gets the ball in the quick or screen game, Steele can make defenders miss and bounce off contact well. Surprised he doesn’t have anything going on yet. Watch for a big senior year and offers to follow.
Kyreek Murray | 2022 QB | Natchez
At 6’4″ 240, Kyreek Murray is one of the biggest quarterbacks in the entire state. Murray has a cannon of an arm to go along with that. He throws a good deep ball with a ton of velocity on it, and makes a ton of plays in the vertical passing game. Murray looks relaxed in the pocket and can step up and deliver downfield. His throwing motion is quick and fluid, allowing for him to get the ball out of his hands quickly. Murray also processes the field well and can go through multi-level reads. With such a big body, he is an obvious threat in the run game as well. Murray can pull the veer and truck through defenders for big first downs. Really intriguing quarterback prospect. Excited to watch his senior year.
Darquez Williams | 2022 DB | Caledonia
A physical box safety, Darquez Williams shows potential to either continue playing safety or move down and become an athletic backer. Williams tackles well in the open field and hits really hard with good form. He can quickly diagnose what is going on on the field and trigger. This is one of the more physical players in the state. He treats offensive players like ragdolls and can get off blocks very well. In pass coverage, Williams has the speed to cover tight ends and slots. He runs sideline to sideline well and can change direction fluidly. Love his hustle to get in on plays across the field as well. Undervalued prospect at this time. Won’t be surprised when he adds some offers during his senior season.
