Versatile players are a staple of high school football, and South Carolina has plenty of them.

The next installment evaluates Class 3A, where the two-way standouts start to play an even bigger role for their teams.

Tim McClurkin, WR/DB, Chapman

One of the big three receives for Chapman hauled in 381 yards and three scores last fall on 37 receptions. He’s got straight-line speed, but also the ability to cut the seem diagonally. Defensively, the 5-foot-11, 175 pounds was nearly as effective, putting up 17 tackles, breaking up seven passes and picking off two more.

Garrison Gasque, QB/S, Aynor

Anyone who has watched the Blue Jackets’ offense that last several years under offensive coordinator-turned-head coach Jason Allen knows the quarterback is basically just a hard-nosed fullback by another name. This year, that spot goes to Gasque full time. He ran for 503 yards and three touchdowns last year, so it’s no surprise he’s a hard-hitting safety, too.
