It’s home to some of the state’s top public and private programs and is once again extremely deep at the running back position.
Here are a few running backs to know in Fulton County this fall…
Justice Haynes Justice Haynes 5'10" | 205 lbs | RB Buford | 2023 State GA – Blessed Trinity
Arguably the top overall running back in Georgia, even as a rising junior, Haynes has everything you look for in a dynamic, game-changing back. The 5-foot-10 185-pounder ran through defenses all year as he rushed for 1,595 yards on 145 carries (11 ypc) and 22 touchdowns. His 199 yards per game was 2nd in the state and just an incredible feat overall. He played in just 8 games on the season, but he made them all count. His speed allowed him to fly by defenses and made him one of the fastest players on the field each play. Throw on 185-pounds of muscle and you’ve got the physical tools to go along with the speed. He also happens to be a natural runner with great vision who follows his blocks the right way. He can carry the Titans offense on his back and helped lead them to an 8-1 record last season. He had great bloodlines as well as his father is a former Georgia Bulldog tailback who played with the Steelers and Falcons in the NFL. The younger Haynes already holds offers from Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and other top programs in college football. He’s expected to be one of the highest-ranked running backs across the country in the 2023 class.
Jordan McDonald Jordan McDonald 6'1" | 215 lbs | RB Milton | 2022 State GA – Milton
Is there a tougher running back to bring down in the entire state? It’s hard to find one. McDonald is a bruising running back at 6-foot-1 220-pounder bounces off tackles with ease and is so tough to bring down in the red-zone. As a junior last year, McDonald led the Eagles in rushing with his 1,338 yards on the ground. He’s a true goal-line stalker who found his way in the end-zone 24 times (Tied for 5th in the state) and helped lead the Eagles to another deep playoff run. The only game where he didn’t run through the opponent was against Cedar Grove who had arguably the best defensive line in the entire state. McDonald rushed for over 200 yards twice last season with his best game coming against an impressive Cherokee team where he rushed for 259 yards and four touchdowns. McDonald is more of a tackle-breaker than a burner with elite speed, but once he gets through the line of scrimmage, he does show some breakaway speed. He’s a tough runner who gets tough yards up the middle and gets stronger and stronger as the game goes along. He carried the ball over 200 times last year and could see his touches increase even more as a senior in 2021.
Damari Alston Damari Alston 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Woodward Academy | 2022 State GA – Woodward Academy
The largest private school in Atlanta has produced some impressive running backs over the last decade and they’ve got one of their best in recent memory still on campus in rising senior, Damari Alston Damari Alston 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Woodward Academy | 2022 State GA . The 2022 four-star has good size at 5-foot-11 205-pounds and looks incredible fast on film for his size. He dominated the competition all last year as he rushed for 1,507 yards and 24 touchdowns. He rushed for over 100 yards in 9 of 12 games last year and was bottled up against only one team, eventual state-champion Marist. Alston changes direction well for his size and has an extra gear when he’s in the open field. He was just too talented for opposing defenses last year and has earned offers from Ohio State, Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, among others.
