Every year there are players that seem to burst onto the scene and take everyone by storm, but they’ve always been there, behind the scenes, winning in the dark. Take a look at some of the difference makers, game changers, and highlight reel play makers as they head into their junior season of high school football.
Drew Viotto Drew Viotto 6'4" | 220 lbs | QB Walled Lake Western | 2023 State MI , 6’3, 200, Walled Lake Western
Viotto is an impressive up and comer, exemplifying what the quarterback position is all about, as he was team captain as an underclassman at Walled Lake Western. He showed great poise as a leader, completing multiple game winning touchdown passes in the final seconds of games this past season, and also displaying outstanding accuracy and an ability to progress nicely through his reads. Given how young he is, his ability to be an accurate thrower down the field speaks volumes to how natural he is as a passer. He’s got division one size and arm strength, and no doubt he’s a player to keep an eye on going forward.
Davon Jackson Davon Jackson 6'3" | 195 lbs | ATH River Rouge | 2023 State MI , 6’3, 195, River Rouge
Jackson is a potential game changer for the River Rouge program, with his size and speed combination. He’s an absolute problem on the field, for opposing teams, and has an opportunity to play as a linebacker, or in coverage down the field, due to his unique skill set. River Rouge has helped develop a handful of freak athletes over the last several years, including current Clemson defensive end Ruke Orhorhoro, and Jackson is the latest in the pack.
Amir Herring Amir Herring 6'3" | 255 lbs | OL West Bloomfield | 2023 State MI , 6’3, 255, West Bloomfield
Herring is a force on the inside, and outside, of the line, paving the way for his teams success on offense. He’s fresh off helping his team at West Bloomfield win a state championship, and one of the reasons for that is his elite ability to move his feet, get downfield with his blocks, and simply impose his will on his opponent. He handles players with ease, and will be a top division one prospect. He does a very good job of using his legs and driving at the point of contact as well, and many times defenders simply have to accept their fate when blocked by Herring.
Cole Dellinger Cole Dellinger 6'4" | 280 lbs | OL Clarkston | 2023 State MI , 6’4, 250, Clarkston
Dellinger plays both sides of the ball, like many elite lineman at the high school level. He’s a focal point of the Clarkston program, for good reason. At guard, he displays a very good level of strength, and his foot speed separates him from most guards. He seems to get to his blocks and create holes with ease, and will continue to be a focal point of the Clarkston offense. He’s following in his brother Garrets footsteps, who recently signed with LSU as an offensive tackle.
