The top two TE prospects in the nation both call Georgia home, and so does multiple other D1 caliber tight ends. There are 8 different TE prospects in Georgia who hold D1 offers with programs like Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, and Notre Dame all coming down to the peach state to find their tight end for the 2022 class.
As deep as it already is, there are plenty of others who are trying to reel in some D1 offers. Here are a few 2022 tight ends in North Georgia who could see their stock take off over the next few months and into their senior seasons.
Stone Bonner – Brookwood
With the Broncos missing a key piece or two on offense from last season, the Brookwood staff expects 2022 tight end Stone Bonner to be a massive part of the pass-happy Brookwood offense in 2022. The Broncos have 2023 QB Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA slinging it around, and he’s going to need some weapons to step up this fall. He’s established some chemistry already with Bonner who is coming off an excellent junior season where he caught 29 passes for 446 yards and 4 TDs. He wasn’t the first option or two for Lonergan last year but he very well could be this year. Bonner is a big target at 6-foot-4 220-pounds with a big catch radius and playmaking ability. He has strong hands and can really help out in the passing game. Expect Bonner to have a monster senior season and possibly see some D1 interest coming his way down the road.
Mason Capers – South Forsyth
Every school is looking for a long, athletic, pass-catching tight end, and that’s exactly what Capers brings to the table. The 6-foot-4 215-pounds moves like a tight end and can be a dangerous mismatch for any offense. He can work vertically in the middle of the field but can also be a reliable option on the outside along the sidelines. He didn’t light up the stat sheet last year with senior Devin McGlockton getting most of the targets, but now it’s time for Capers to step up and show what he can do. The War Eagles are going to look to throw the ball around once again in 2021, so look for Capers to get a lot of opportunities to make plays as a senior. He’ll be a big weapon in the red-zone as well as he’ll be able to use his size to his advantage in jump-ball situations. Capers is a possible breakout player in the region and has enough size and athleticism to see some interest start to come his way.
Baxley O’brien – Flowery Branch
Looking for another tough, gritty tight end? That’s exactly what you’re getting in O’Brien. He’s not the biggest or flashiest tight end, but he’s a reliable option in the passing game due to his soft hands and deceptive speed. At 6-foot-220-pounds, O’Brien is a multi-sport athlete who plays hard and does his job every play. He was extremely productive as a junior last year as he caught 25 passes for 472 yards and 5 touchdowns last year. He was a go-to receiver on offense and always found a way to make a play. He showed good balance and the ability to pick up yards after the catch as well. He’s tough to bring down by smaller defenders down the field and is always looking to score when given an opportunity. Look for him to be one of the more productive receivers in the region once again this fall.
