No other state comes close to Georgia as it relates to producing top tight end talent over the last few years, and the 2023 class is proving that it has the chance to be just as good. The north Georgia area has produced two of the best 2022 tight ends in the country, and the area has more D1 talent coming through in the 2023 class.
Here are a few 2023 TE prospects to know in North Georgia…
Lawson Luckie Lawson Luckie 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Norcross | 2023 State GA – Norcross
Already known as one of the nation’s top tight end in across the country in the 2023 class, the 6-foot-3 225-pounder already holds major offers from Georgia, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, among others. He’s a true do-everything tight end who can make a big impact not only in the passing game, but blocking in the run game as well. He’s a determined young man who loves the game and loves putting in the work to be the best. He’s detail oriented, strong, physical and athletic. He trains with two former professional football players in the off-season (Terrence Edwards and Willie Anderson) and has hid best football still ahead of him. Last fall, Luckie caught 35 passes for 390 yards and three touchdowns. As he enters his junior season this fall, the Norcross standout is expected to take the leap as one of the leaders of the team on the field, in the locker room, and in the classroom. He holds a 3.85 GPA and has the potential to have a monster third year in 2021 on the field.
Jackson Head Jackson Head 6'3" | 210 lbs | TE River Ridge | 2023 State GA – River Ridge
If there was one breakout tight end from Cherokee County last year, it was Head. The 6-foot-3 215-pounder was a big-time weapon for the Knights last year as a sophomore, catching 36 passes for 657 yards and 7 touchdowns, while leading River Ridge to a region championship and an 11-1 overall record. As good as he is on the field, some say Jackson’s best attribute is his competitiveness. He’s incredibly driven and internally motivated to be his best, and you can see that through his work ethic in the weight room and in practice. As a TE/WR, he has great body control and understands how to use his size to shield off smaller defenders. He has very good hands, catching most everything in his vicinity. He will be moved into their traditional “Y” position but he’ll also be moved around a lot in formations to get him the matchups they want, making him even more difficult to defend.
Zeke Moore – Roswell
He didn’t exactly light up the stat sheet last year for the Hornets, but that could change in a big way this fall. The 6-foot-2 235-pounder just just 15 passes for 175 yards last year, but he’s expected to play a much bigger role as a junior this fall. He has soft hands in the pass game but is also big and strong enough to block on the edge in the run game. One of the better athletes on the team, Moore could play TE/DE/FB, and can help on special teams as well. Moore was a 1st-Team All-Region selection as a sophomore in a very talented region, and he’ll have even bigger expectations for himself this spring and moving forward. If there’s one tight end who could breakout in North Fulton this year, it could be Moore.
