We march forward in our 2023 Stock Risers series as we reach the defensive side of the ball. Often with younger classes, we’re dealing more with potential than production along the defensive line but there are still several players that have shown both. Two defensive linemen sit atop our rankings and eight sit inside the top 50, so here we’ll break a few of them down.

KJ Sampson KJ Sampson 6'4" | DL New Bern | 2023 State NC , 6’4 285- New Bern (No. 1 DT, No. 2 overall)

Like our top overall prospect, Rico Walker Rico Walker 6'4" | DL Hickory | 2023 State NC , Sampson could be considered more of a stock confirmer than a stock riser. We ranked him fourth in the state before the season and saw nothing to suggest that ranking was unwarranted. Sampson’s first step is truly impressive and even at his size, he’s one of the quickest players on the field. Between that and his great play strength, it’s obvious why he has a host of Power Five suitors.

No’Tavien Green No’Tavien Green 6'2" | DL New Bern | 2023 State NC , 6’2 210- New Bern (No. 2 Edge, No. 14 overall)

Like his teammate, Green had a great sophomore season, but unlike his teammate, it came a bit out of nowhere. Green has excellent bend around the edge
