Here are some of our quick standouts and observations on Day 1 from the 18U teams:
NOTE: Prospects played both offense and defense during the tournament so the analysis may not reflect the position listed.
Marion “Bootz” Mitchell, 2022 WR – Berkeley (Twitter: @MitchellBootz10)
Mitchell caught our eye within the few minutes that we saw him. He’s a solid route runner who runs at full speed. He ran one route right up the seam and made a catch in traffic for a huge completion. He knows when to come out of his breaks as he made a catch in between two defenders.
Robert Adams, 2022 QB – Lower Richland (Twitter: @adamsIII7)
Adams is an athletic quarterback who makes throws with accuracy. Not only can he make throws with accuracy, but he also showed he can make throws on the run, like we saw on a designed rollout. He got involved on defense as well and held his own, going stride for stride with the receiver.
Nick Fortune, 2022 DB – Crestwood (Twitter: @NickFortune5)
Normally Fortune plays defensive back, but he was used as a wide receiver on Day 1 and was impressive in doing so. He ran a route out of the backfield and gave you a sense that he could be a running back with his sure hands to make a completion for a touchdown. We saw one catch where he high pointed the ball using his hands.
Anthony Mack Anthony Mack 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Orangeburg-Wilkinson | 2023 State SC , 2023 QB – Orangeburg-Wilkinson (Twitter: @anthony_mack7)
Mack has impressive arm strength and makes throws over the middle and to the corner. The corner route was for a touchdown and the velocity on the ball was excellent as the ball dropped right into the receiver’s hands. He showed good footwork in the pocket at times as well. He is an outstanding student in the classroom with a 3.952 GPA.
Additional observations
- Braelyn Bowers (2023 WR, South Aiken – Twitter: @ Brayl3n)
2020 Hudl highlight film – Bowers lined up at defensive back for a series and appeared to be beat for a touchdown but he showed great recovery speed to prevent the touchdown.
- Garrison Kipley (2022 QB, Oceanside Collegiate Academy – Twitter: @GarrisonKepley)
2020 Hudl highlight film – Kipley has a strong arm and was impressive in stepping into his throws, like one to the back corner for a touchdown.
