1. Tyler Perez Tyler Perez RB Taft | 2022 TX – Taft High School (San Antonio, TX)
Leading the way for the Central Texas running backs is Perez, who based on his tape, displays his speed, agility, and also a trait that some running backs struggle with but his ability to catch and run routes. On top of these abilities, he is also tough to tackle despite having two or three linebackers on top of him. He is also able to get open when his quarterback escapes the pocket, creating a big play. Although there are no stats posted, the tape speaks for itself. Perez is a top-tier athlete.
2. Moses Wray Moses Wray 5'11" | 215 lbs | RB Wimberley | 2022 State TX – Wimberley High School (Wimberley, TX)
Another top-tier running back is Wray, who has appeared in multiple articles throughout Prep Redzone. Last season, he rushed for 996 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also plays as a defensive end, showcasing his toughness that also displays whenever he is given the ball on offense. Watching his tape, he displays both speed and power and has excellent ball carrier vision being able to find the gaps in the defensive line to gain a ton of yards.
3. Josh fahrner Josh fahrner 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Steele | 2022 TX – Steele High School (Cibolo, TX)
Fahrner continues to have his stock rise as well. Last season, he rushed for 693 yards and nine touchdowns with his most noteworthy performance coming against a tough New Braunfels team. In that game, he rushed for 113 yards and one touchdown as Steele won by just one point. Much like Perez and Wray, he also displays great speed, but what stands Fahrner apart in his highlights is his ability to juke and outmaneuver defenders while backs like Wray can simply bulldoze over them. Fahrner’s ability to juke out defenders creates big-play opportunities and is also why he sometimes is given the kick returner spot.
4. Dhamir Mcdonnaugh Dhamir Mcdonnaugh 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Midway | 2022 State TX – Midway High School (Waco, TX)
McDonnaugh has received multiple offers already including from Bowling Green, Massachusetts, Morgan State, Pittsburgh and San Diego State. His most recent offer comes from San Diego State back in February. The interesting thing about McDonnaugh is that he hails all the way from Philadelphia where he played for Imhotep Charter High School. Much like Wray, McDonnaugh has a lot of horsepower in his step giving him the chance to plow through linebackers that stand in his way. With a lot of power and tenacity, McDonnaugh will surely continue to have his stock rise as he goes through his senior season in Texas.
5. Preston Alford Preston Alford 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Dripping Springs | 2022 State TX – Dripping Springs High School (Dripping Springs, TX)
Alford has been mentioned multiple times across Prep Redzone Texas and for good reason. Starting off, he has multiple offers including from Arkansas State, Columbia, Dartmouth, Eastern Kentucky and Navy. He was named District 12-5A-I first-team all-district, and according to 247Sports, he rushed for 1,261 yards and 19 touchdowns while also having 578 receiving yards and 7 receiving touchdowns. If Alford finds a hole and is able to hit the afterburners, then he is likely gone. His speed is almost unmatched which also translates to when he plays on defense. Alford is a player to watch for next season especially given what he has already shown.
