For Jacksonville Ribault, the 3-7 record that the Trojans posted during a pandemic season was certainly something that every player and coach learned from.
What this team did – even in the losses – was battle to the end. Knocking off power Tallahassee Godby and losing to eventual 5A state runner up Tallahassee Rickards, the Trojans ended the season with optimism.
With a number of rising seniors (Class of 2022) coming back for the 2021 season, it has certainly been a fun spring so far – with several jobs up for grabs.
While the rising senior class is stacked, second year head coach Marlon White is all about giving the underclassmen an opportunity to get into the mix and create the competition needed to get better, especially with the schedule this program always plays.
Some of the Class of 2022 football talent that will be expected to make in impact – includes Zavotray Brown (DE, 6-4, 195), Khristian Castleberry (LB, 6-0, 195), Carmello Cooper (DL, 6-1, 215), Shaun Davis (OL, 6-4, 330), Kenneth Fedd (WR, 5-11, 160), Octavius Green (DL, 5-7, 245), Dinovin Green (DB, 5-7 150), Corey Iverson-Wilson (DL, 6-1, 297) and offensive lineman Deshun Jones (6-1, 295).
The Trojans will also count on talented prospects Breon Jordan (LB, 5-10, 180), Jamaal Mixson (OL, 6-3, 295), Christopher Murkey (DL, 5-7, 230), Treveon Rosier (LB, 5-7, 185), Shumaryon Sassnett (OL, 5-11, 225), Antonio Sheffield (TE, 6-4, 190) and defensive lineman Jerome Williams (6-0, 180).
UNDERCLASSMEN WILL BE NEEDED
While the senior class will add that experience and leadership, the underclassmen at Ribault will also be a place that will help this program continue to climb the ladder to the top.
Class of 2023 (rising juniors) prospects such as Jalen Armstead (LB, 5-10, 196), Arthur Britt (LB, 5-10, 160), Sincere Cohen (RB, 6-0, 215), Cavon Cooper (SS, 5-10, 175), Thurston Daniels (DB, 5-8, 160), Malik Ellison (OL, 6-3, 300), Kalvin Gilbert Jr. (WR, 6-3, 160), Damontrio Glee (RB, 5-8, 180), Cameron Hendley (DB, 6-3, 175) and young quarterback standout Nick Jones (6-0, 160). Also, Ande King (DB, 6-0, 170), Ja’kari Lawrence-Scott (OL, 6-4), Eddie Rolack (WR, 5-8, 180), Chyone Simmons (DL, 6-2, 210), Jourdyn Smith-Williams (WR, 6-0, 170) and receiver Kevin Stokes Jr. (5-10, 160) will be counted on.
The Class of 2023 will also include Isaiah Washington (DL, 5-10, 210), Malik White (DB, 5-8, 180), Jamari Williams (RB, 5-10, 180), Marquavious Jackson (DL, 5-9, 225), Jakobi Smith (DB, 5-9, 170), Da’Zon James (DB), Rashad Thompson (DL/OL) and defensive back Roger Thompson (DB, 5-9, 150).
Keep an eye on the rising sophomore class (2024) as well – with Jayden Clark (LB/DE), Jaylen Houston QB) and two-way (OL/DL) lineman John Jackson Jr.
