There was talent all over the field, and the Class of 2022 represented their selves well throughout the day. Here are 10 offensive and defensive players that had standout performances.
Offense:
Keyan Miller – Concordia, 5’7”, 190, RB
Miller significantly raised his recruiting stock after his performance. He showed off his speed and agility by posting a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.38 in the 3-Cone Drill and a 7.28 in the L-Drill. Miller primarily played as a fullback in 2020, but he should be the lead back in Concordia’s offense this fall.
Cole Stratton Cole Stratton 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Blue Valley North | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley North, 6’0”, 170, WR
Stratton proved he could be a playmaker as a junior this past season. His showing at this combine was a reminder of that. The wide-out ran a 4.69 laser-timed 40 and posted an impressive 6.94 in the L-Drill. Stratton also posted a nice 34 inch vertical. He will be a big-time target for the Mustangs’ pass heavy offense this season.
Greyson Holbert Greyson Holbert 6'1" | 185 lbs | ATH Blue Valley | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley, 6’1”, 180, ATH
Holbert showed why he is one of the top ranked athletes in this upcoming senior class. The multi-dimensional player ran a 4.83 laser-timed 40, a 4.47 in the 3-Cone, and a 7.14 in the L-Drill. His times will only improve throughout this summer, and he will be primed for a huge senior campaign.
Parker Kavanagh Parker Kavanagh 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Salina Central | 2022 State KS – Salina Central, 6’2”, 180, QB
This signal caller put recruiters on notice during his junior season. Central struggled, but Kavanagh managed to throw for over 2,000 yards. He showcased his athleticism this past weekend, running a 4.9 laser-timed 40, a 4.5 in the 3-Cone, and hitting 30 inches in the Vertical Jump. Look for him and the Mustangs to improve this year.
Mason Hyskell – Olathe North, 6’2”, 305, OL
This trench warrior put together some solid numbers while at the combine. Hyskell’s 10-yard split in the 40 was a 1.90, and his 20-yard split was a 3.20. In addition, he ran a 7.84 in the L-Drill and reached 37 feet in his PB Toss. He is an important piece to the Eagles’ offensive line.
Defense:
Richie Patrick Richie Patrick 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Lansing | 2022 State KS – Lansing, 6’0”, 180, DB
Patrick was featured in the preview for this combine for a reason. This young man had himself a day. The athletic safety ran a 4.75 laser timed 40, a 4.31 in the 3-Cone, and an impressive 6.88 in the L-Drill. His strong performance didn’t stop there. Patrick leaped 36 inches in the Vertical Jump, and he also reached 37 feet in the PB Toss. This showing will help Patrick’s recruitment.
Aidan Morgan Aidan Morgan 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Blue Valley Southwest | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley Southwest, 6’2”, 220, LB
Morgan impressed during 2020, piling up 77 total tackles, 10 being for a loss, and 4.5 sacks. The backer was looking to build off his solid junior season at this combine, and he accomplished that. Morgan isn’t the fastest straight-line runner, but he shows good agility. He ran a 4.38 in the 3-Cone and a 6.98 in the L-Drill. Morgan and Jake Laurie Jake Laurie 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB Blue Valley Southwest | 2022 State KS will be a tough line backing duo this season.
Gabe Peterson Gabe Peterson 6'2" | 245 lbs | DL Blue Valley NW | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley Northwest, 6’2”, 240, DL
Peterson will definitely be moving up in the Class of ’22 player rankings after his showing at the combine. He proved that he is one of the most athletic edge defenders in this class. Peterson ran a 4.91 40, a 4.34 in the 3-Cone, and a 7.4 in the L-Drill. The defensive end also got up to 35 inches in the Vertical Jump. Quarterbacks better watch out for him coming off the edge this year.
Daniel Brown – Washington, 5’11”, 205, DL/LB
The Wildcats did not play a game this past fall due to Covid-19, so players like Brown are unknown heading into the ’21 Season. He did help himself by competing this past Saturday though. Brown ran a 5.0 in the 40, a 4.5 in the 3-Cone and a 7.41 in the L-Drill. He could make some noise with a full season.
Jaden Mayfield – Blue Valley West, 6’1”, 270, DL
Mayfield has been featured in our Class of ’22 Watch List series, and he is a player that should continue gaining attention. He proved he can move by running a 5.05 40, with a 1.64 10-yard split. Mayfield showed off his strength as well, reaching 39 feet in the PB Toss. His stock is steadily climbing.
