Over 300 hundred athletes from surrounding areas traveled to St. Pius High School for the last weekend of this combine series. Several Kansas players held their own against some top-notch talent. Here are 10 players that had strong performances this past Saturday.
Class of ’22:
Cooper Whitley Cooper Whitley 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Olathe South | 2022 State KS – Olathe South, 6’0”, 175, DB
Whitley’s stock continues to rise heading into his final season. He’s been recognized as one of the best safeties in this class, and his performance Saturday was another indication of that. Whitely tested well, posting a 4.8 40, a 4.22 in the 3-Cone, 7.19 in the L-Drill and a 35-inch vertical.
Zavion Clarke Zavion Clarke 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Wichita West | 2022 State KS – Wichita West, 6’0”, 190, RB
Clarke is looking to put recruiters on notice this year. His day at the combine was a step in the right direction. He ran a 4.8 in the 40, a 4.37 in the 3-Cone, and a 7.1 in the L-Drill. Clarke also showed off his hops, posting an explosive 40-inch vertical. He’ll be a back to watch out of the Wichita area.
Jason Black – Washington, 6’0”, 170, RB
Last week it was Daniel Brown of Washington having a standout day, this week his teammate impresses at St. Pius. These Wildcats are on a mission to prove themselves heading into the ’21 season. Black posted a 4.84 in the 40, a 4.34 3-Cone time, and a 7.22 in the L-Drill. To top it off, Black also leaped 122 inches in the broad jump, and hit 35 inches in the vertical.
MJ Overstreet – St. Thomas Aquinas, 5’10”, 185, ATH
Overstreet is crossing state lines and will be playing for the Saints this fall. This talented athlete could make an immediate impact on either side of the ball for Aquinas. While at the combine, Overstreet ran a 4.9 40, 4.4 in the 3-Cone and a 7.25 L-Drill time. His day wasn’t done there, as he went on to hit 122 inches in the broad jump and 38 inches in the vertical.
Tiernan Reed-Cox Tiernan Reed-Cox 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Ottawa | 2022 State KS – Ottawa, 6’0”, 160, DB
Reed-Cox is an under the radar safety heading into his senior year, but his combine performance should help gain attention. The Ottawa product posted solid times running a 4.8 40, a 4.41 3-Cone and a 7.37 in the L-Drill. His showing has earned him a bump up in the next player rankings update.
Jahiem Richbow – Wichita West, 5’10”, 200, LB
This linebacker prospect had an overall solid day at the combine. During the speed and agility tests, Richbow ran a 5.1 40, 4.47 in the 3-Cone and 7.66 in the L-Drill. He also reached 36 feet in the PB Toss and jumped 34 inches in the vertical.
Andrew Daniels Andrew Daniels 6'2" | 275 lbs | OL Andover Central | 2022 State KS – Andover Central, 6’2”, 270, OL
Daniels had a strong showing coming out of the offensive line group. He’s one of the more athletic offensive linemen in this upcoming senior class, and his numbers can attest to that. The senior to be ran 5.4 in the 40, with a 1.8 10-yard split, a 4.84 3-Cone and an 8.22 L-Drill time. Daniels also showed off his strength and explosiveness reaching 42 feet in the PB Toss and 25 inches in the vertical.
Braydon Wickliffe Braydon Wickliffe 6'1" | 275 lbs | DL Goddard | 2022 State KS – Goddard, 6’1”, 280, DL
Wickliffe is another defensive player that will be moving up in the next Class of ’22 rankings update. He’s an athletic defensive lineman that possesses quick hands and a high motor. Wickliffe ran well, posting a 5.3 40, a 4.78 3-Cone time and an 8.38 L-Drill time. He should continue to pick up offers throughout his senior year.
Class of ’24:
Branton DeWeese – Washburn Rural, 5’11”, 170, QB
DeWeese showed the potential of being a legit dual-threat quarterback during his freshmen season. At the combine the young gunslinger ran a 5.2 in the 40, a 4.41 3-Cone time and a 7.25 L-Drill time. His times will only get better as he gets older. It will be fun to see DeWeese develop over these next three years.
Ethan Vasquez – Blue Valley, 5’9”, 160, DB
This was a good opportunity for Vasquez to see how he stacks up against the upperclassmen in the state, and he put together a nice showing. The sophomore to be ran a 5.2 40, with a 4.46 in the 3-Cone and a 7.63 in the L-Drill. The Blue Valley prospect also had a strong PB Toss, reaching 33 feet and he hit 32 inches in the vertical.
