With a great field of recruits looking to open their final camp season with a bang, a few stood out, highlighted by a familiar name at the top of the list and my pick for overall camp MVP.
Tyrique Tucker- Life Christian (Richmond)
The camp defensive line MVP, defensive tug of war champion, and my pick for overall MVP, Tucker once again put on a show at a camp, dominating 1-on-1 drills, and showing his strength in the aforementioned tug of war session. Tucker is big at 6’2″ and 295lbs, and is as strong as an ox, his recruiting was sidetracked by COVID as were many other recruits but with more eyes on him, he should see more offers coming his way. Tucker did not make our initial 2022 rankings and has offers from Fordham and Norfolk State
Ike Thompson- Life Christian
Tucker’s teammate Thompson sits at 6’1″ and 300lbs which makes Thompson just an inch short of being the “ideal size” for an interior defensive lineman and is extremely aggressive and has some good moves at the line. Just like Tucker, Thompson is very strong and proved that during the tug of war session. Thompson has no offers yet but with a few more solid camps and more time in front of coaches, I could see that changing, Thompson was not in our initial 2022 rankings but I could also see that changing.
Jaylon White Jaylon White 6'5" | 240 lbs | DL Kempsville | 2022 State VA – Kempsville (Va Beach)
I’ve known since the minute I first saw White that he was a D-1 defensive end and his offers are backing it up. Standing at 6’5″ and 230lbs, White is an absolute monster with great hands and is surprisingly agile for his size which he showed off during the tic-tac-toe drills and in 1-on-1s. White is part of a core at Kempsville looking to change the recent trajectory of the program and was key to them snapping their 60+ game losing streak in 2019, he is 64th in our initial 2022 rankings and has offers from Fordham, Bowling Green, and Old Dominion.
Jayshaun Alston- Portsmouth Christian
Both Alston brothers showed up at the camp and performed well, Jayshaun sits at 6’2″ and 255lbs, and from what I have seen covering his games plays mostly on the at defensive end. Alston has a good spin move and really impressed during 1-on-1 drills. Alston is a two-way player who also starts on the offensive line. Jayshaun has no offers yet but would be a solid FCS/D2 pickup or a late-cycle G5 recruit. Jayshaun was not in our initial 2022 rankings.
Jahquan Alston- Portsmouth Christian
Jahquan, the same size as brother Jayshaun, plays defensive tackle and is also on the starting offensive line at Portsmouth Christian and in my opinion, is the more powerful of the two brothers. He showcased that power during 1-on-1 drills and in non-contact drills earlier in the day, like his brother I think Jahquan is a good FCS/D2 pickup and has no offers yet. I think more film against better competition and more work in front of college coaches at camps could help both of the Alston brothers.
We will be releasing our top 2022 offensive line performers soon as well as 2023/24 top performers soon so stay tuned for that.
