The number of athletes ranked this time around has almost doubled since the last time. Prep Redzone Maryland now has 71 athletes ranked. We previously had 37 athletes ranked. What does that mean? It means we have a lot of newcomers to the list. We hit on some of the higher ranked newcomers in our 2022 Stock Risers article. Now, we look at some of the more underrated newcomers to our list.
No. 66 Ashten Snelsire/QB/Decatur
Snelsire has done a lot to improve his stock during the spring. He completed 113-out-of-204 passes for 1,714 yards, 23 touchdowns, and three interceptions in seven games. He also added 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 49 carries. We consider him to be a pro-style quarterback.
No. 52 Jamar Curtis Jamar Curtis 5'6" | 170 lbs | RB St. John's (DC) | 2022 State MD /RB/St. John’s
Curtis has offers from Marshall and Temple. He was the most impressive player out of all the running backs who played a few games in the fall or in the spring. Curtis carried the football 49 times for 539 yards (11.0 ypc) and six touchdowns in four games. He also caught five passes for 84 yards. He’s fast, explosive, and has a lot of wiggle to his game. The only thing hurting him from a recruiting standpoint is his size. Whoever lands Curtis at the next level will get a baller.
No. 53 Rodney Nelson Rodney Nelson 5'9" | RB Franklin | 2022 State MD /RB/Franklin
His nickname is “The Jet”. After watching his highlights, it’s easy to see why. His game speed is FAST. He carried the football 35 times for 459 yards and four touchdowns during Maryland’s spring high school football season. He’s currently under-the-radar due to not being able to play in the fall. It should impress colleges with him after watching his spring highlights. Despite not having any offers, his efforts were strong enough to land him at the No 2 spot.
No. 28 Steve Sannieniola/S/Quince Orchard
Sannieniola’s 10-plus offers include Maryland, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Boston College, Buffalo, Duke, and East Carolina. Solid against the run and pass. He played in two games during the 2020-2021 season. He has the frame that’ll enable him to put on some good weight for the next level. We missed ranking him the first time around.
No. 67 Zimeir Handy Zimeir Handy 5'8" | 175 lbs | WR Decatur | 2022 MD /QB/Decatur
Handy is one of the few players on this list who could play some games during the 2020-2021 season. He caught 35 passes for 529 yards (15.1 ypc) and 10 touchdowns in the seven games he played this spring. Handy is a player who will benefit from being able to attend some college prospect camps this spring.
